PWG Astonishing X-MAS #40
December 16, 2005
The Sweatbox in Hollywood, CA
Dino pumps up the fans, dressed as Santa Claus giving out gifts. Gifts include candy canes, a full pack of straws, a bag of chips, and what seems like a counterfeit GI Joe.
Alex Shelley vs 'The Professional' Scott Lost - 6.5/10
Some great technical and mat wrestling with some Scott Lost comedy. The match was mostly Shelley, so i couldn't help cheering for Lost to do something...anything. I do wanna say this: Scott Lost had one of the most beautiful flying Elbow Drops out there.
Topgun Talwar & Quicksilver vs Nemesis & Ronin - 4/10
Match wasn't bad...it just wasn't good either. Lost my interest at times.
Colt Cabana vs Scorpio Sky - 5/10
Started off really good, but then by the end i'm not sure if Sky was injured or what, but it just ended up weird.
Roderick Strong and Jack Evans vs 2 Skinny Black Guys w/Jade Chung - 7.5/10
Just an awesome and fun match with a lot of spots and wrestling and Jack Evans. The finished was botched, but still good.
PWG Title Match
Joey Ryan vs Chris Kanyon - 5.5/10
"The question after tonight is not gonna be 'Who better than Kanyon?', but 'Who wants a Mustache Ride!?'" This is Joey Ryan's first defense and he gets Kanyon of all people. At one point, Joey brings out his Asthma Medication, this prompts the crowd to chant 'Joey Swallows". Match wasn't bad and Kanyon still had it, but he was wrestling so much slower than Joey that he seemed like he was slacking. Finish was cool.
Samoa Joe vs Davey Richards - 6.5/10
I will never be accustomed to seeing Davey Richards be schooled and overwhelmed by another man.
B-Boy, Alex Kozlov, Christopher Daniels, and Petey Williams vs TJ Perkins, Chris Sabin, Rocky Romero, and Frankie Kazarian - 7/10
In 6 yrs, this match will be an all-star main event, today is just loads of fun, action, pretty good wrestling.
Guerrilla Warfare
Kevin Steen vs Super Dragon - 9/10
Just some points i want to make:
(1) This is probably one of the most violent Guerrilla Warfares in PWG
(2) There is A LOT of no selling at the beginning of the match, but i guess to some point it makes sense.
(3) Super Dragon is lucky he is taking on a young Steen.
(4) The amount of Curb Stomps really hurts the move in my opinion.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Top to bottom, a really good show for PWG, worth getting for PWG fans.
