Thelone reviews OVW TV Episode 1131

Post by Thelone » Apr 18th, '21, 18:43

After a pretty underwhelming "start", let's see what OVW has in store this week.

Recap of what happened last week with Godderz/Gunn winning the tag belts and the ladder match, then the intro.

We're with the announcers and... wait, what the fuck is a "pillar to post" match? Oh, the explanation is that D’Mone Solavino is basically trying to snap William Lutz in half by stretching him with the ring post. Well at least that's something. Anyway, the announcers bicker a bit, then introduce...

"The Good Word" with Reverend Ronnie Roberts
Roberts says a bunch of catchphrases, then introduces his guest: Captain Caribbean. Roberts is trying to have Captain say who he really is and they have a pretty entertaining back and forth. Cash Flo and his manager (Josh Ashcraft) come out as well, he gives Roberts a bunch of money for his microphone, then Ashcraft is also trying to goad Captain. He says that he's not fooling anybody and Flo will beat him for the heavyweight title next week. Anyway, both end up attacking Captain and trying to unmask him, but he gets rid of both and they yell at each other. That was a solid go home angle for the title match.

We see two dudes fighting in a parking lot and... is that Mahabali Shera? Yeah, it's really him, thanks random sign guy.

The Tate Twins (Brendon and Brent) vs. Jared Kripke & JC Addams - **
The announcers are pushing the idea that the twins are more aggressive and focused after that loss last week. They win pretty quickly.

Quick recap of Tony Gunn taking everything from Kal Herro (his jacket, fanny pack and boots/career) the previous weeks.

Blake "Money" Wright vs. Mahabali Shera - Squash
Is Shera still that horrible (obviously can't tell from this match) that he has to work OVW while under contract with Impact?

Post-match, Tom Coffey (the other guy from earlier) tells Shera that he's coming after him and nothing will stop him, and Shera chases him.

Here's Al Snow to announce a bunch of new regional TV deals and that OVW will be on thurdays instead of tuesdays. Luscious Lawrence and Haley J come out to celebrate with him and Snow is not too happy that Lawrence painted the briefcase pink, but now Godderz and Gunn are out. They goad Luscious into cashing in his briefcase, but then Godderz says that he will face Gunn because the title match is on the 24th, and Gunn is not too keen on that. Gunn is all "I can't wrestle with Herro's crappy boots", but Snow doesn't care and books the match, so...

Tony Gunn (w/ Jessie Godderz and Shannon the Dude) vs. Luscious Lawrence (w/ Haley J) - **
They had a short, decent match, then Godderz tries to trip Lawrence, instead trips Gunn who gets caught in a big slam and Godderz comes in for the DQ.

Post-match, Godderz tries to strangle Lawrence with his belt, but Haley jumps on him to stop. Gunn catches and throws her away, which angers Lawrence and he gets rid of both. Again, pretty good go home angle.

Coffey and Shera will face each other during the special next week.

D'Mone Solavino vs. William Lutz - **
So the rules of this "pillar to post" match is that you have to do a submission move/hold around a ring post for ten seconds to win. Ok, that makes sense, I can live with that.

That was a bit slow, but decent overall. Lutz won by holding Solavino in a bow and arrow for ten seconds for the win.

A much better show this week and an efficient go home show for the special next week. The matches were nothing amazing, but the promos/confrontations were good and entertaining.
