Thelone reviews OVW TV Episode 1136

Post by Thelone » May 24th, '21, 07:05

Well, it's the go-home show for the next special I didn't know was happening already.

Ten bell salute and graphic for New Jack.

We start backstage with Shannon the Dude talking to someone on the phone, wondering why he/she can't come and be his manager. Shannon gets fed up and says he doesn't need one, only for Big Rex to be behind him, and Shannon is begging whoever this is to come to the show.

Announcers are hyping the show, then we're backstage again with Gustavo and his manager does most of the talking.

Ryan Howe (w/ Drew Franklin) vs. Gustavo (w/ Steve Romines) - *
First time in the tournament where the managers actually detracted from the match. They felt mostly aimless and just goofing off for the sake of it. Finish was also pretty bad with Gustavo going for a splash, but he REALLY didn't want to eat knees in the stomach, so he landed on his feet first and then on Howe's knees kinda, so it looked terrible. Howe finished him off right after for the win.

Backstage with Shera who's in a three way and PUT THE WHOLE LOCKER ROOM ON NOTICE!!! because he's gonna win the tournament.

Mahabali Shera vs. Tony Evans vs. AJ Cazana - 1/2*
This was basically a handicap match disguised as a 3-way. Shera is still pretty damn bad now that I've seen him for more than two seconds.

"The Good Word" with Reverend Ronnie Roberts - Bad
His guest is Tony Gunn. He mostly talks about Kal Herro who's in the stands again (he's the bartender it seems like), and says that he's still there because his dad is a good friend of Snow. We hear from him via phone call and the grainiest picture they could find. Anyway, he basically says that Herro will never give up and Gunn can't do anything about it or even touch him because he's not a licensed wrestler anymore. Oh, and he'll be defending the tag belts with Godderz at the special against the Tate Twins. The best way I can put it is that it looked completely artificial and thus hard to take seriously.

Backstage with Ashcraft and Hy-Zaya. He says the chase for Star Rider is on hold this week, that it's the first test of brutality for Amir and they'll leave him bruised and battered.

Lilith Grimm & Dani Mo vs. Arie Alexander & Ellie - Erm...
The match was going fine, then Grimm knocked Alexander out with her skull mask for the DQ. She beat all three women up and piled them up while the announcers went crazy for... a 3-way she'll be in at the special. It's not even a title match or anything, just a random match against Alexander and Mo.

Big Rex (w/Teddy Abrams and Adam Swayze) vs. Shannon the Dude (w/ Adam Revolver) - DUD?
Rex has a small orchestra playing The Final Countdown (obviously a sign that Bryan Danielson will make his long awaited OVW debut at some point, or maybe not). Shannon cuts a promo before the match saying that the rulebook clearly mentions that you're only allowed one manager at ringside and wants Swayze out. While Shannon was a dick to Swayze near the entrance, Revolver attacks Rex from behind and it's not very effective. More shenanigans happened, then Gunn comes back, kicks Rex in the balls and Shannon falls on him for the win. Well that was something that happened.

The announcers are hyping up the special with three tournament matches, and Godderz/Gunn vs. Tate Twins. They sure are packing up this show we just heard of this week with filler...

Flo joins the commentary table for the main event of...

Hy-Zaya (w/ Josh Ashcraft) vs. Omar Amir - ***
So yeah, Amir will have to go through every member of the Legacy of Brutality to get his hands on Flo again. Finally something decent on this show and Amir won clean.

Post-match, here's Amir's next opponent Big Zo attacking him from behind. He does a big slam, then a Vader Bomb on Amir. Zaya goes near the announcers and throws a bunch of shit around to calm himself down, then LOB poses near the entrance. The announcers hype the special some more, and we're off!

That was a weak show to say the least. It's hard to even call it a go-home show because I'm pretty sure they only mentioned the special this week and it definitely seems to be just an extra two-hour TV episode than anything... well, special.
