BRM Reviews ROH This Means War

ROH This Means War- Woodbridge, CT (10/29/2005)

Okay promos from Jade Chung and Roderick Strong

Nigel McGuinness interrupts the start of Alex Shelley vs. Claudio Castagnoli and cuts a promo on Claudio, setting up a Pure Title match between them.

CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI vs. ALEX SHELLEY (w/Prince Nana)- 7.5/10. Just plain great wrestling.
After the match, we get more build to Nigel vs. Claudio.

AZRIEAL & DAVEY ANDREWS vs. JASON BLADE & KID MIKAZE- 5.25/10. Both teams looked impressive

RICK REYES (w/Julius Smokes) vs. MITCH FRANKLIN- complete and total squash. Less than 10 seconds.

Dumb promo by Dragon saying the he can’t let Roddy win the title because Roddy wrestles, partially, for corporate America, and then he talks about something random that happened in his home town. To equate TNA with corporate America is just ridiculous.

FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL: Kikutaro vs. Nosawa vs. Nigel McGuinness vs. BJ Whitmer (w/Lacey)- 7.25/10. Good comedy from Kikutaro, and great wrestling from everyone.

AUSTIN ARIES vs. AJ STYLES

9.COLT CABANA vs. B-Boy (w/Julius Smokes)- 6.5/10.
After the match, someone tries to jump Cabana, but Cabana kicked their ass… then Homicide’s music played, while Cide snuck through the crowd in the dark and attacked Colt. They then brawled through the crowd, and back to the ring. The brawl ends with an Ace Crusher off the apron through a table.
Allison Danger (dressed like a skanky nun, because it is almost Halloween), announces that Daniels can’t be here tonight, but “in the spirit of Halloween” they have found a suitable replacement: CURRY MAN!
JAY LETHAL vs. CURRY MAN (w/Allison Danger)- 7.25/10. A fun comedy match that featured dancing by Curry Man, Lethal, Allison Danger, and even the referee. Curry Man cut things off before Bobby Cruise could give in to peer pressure and start dancing. Then the match got serious, and we got some very good wrestling.

JIMMY RAVE PROMO- pretty good

12. ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Bryan Danielson(c) vs. Roderick Strong-9/10
The crowd was split about 50-50 at the beginning, but Dragon managed to be a HUGE jerk, beginning his heel turn by turning the crowd against himself. The heel character was rather brilliant, in that Dragon managed to be everything that an ROH wrestler is supposed to be… but managed to be a HUGE jerk while doing it, thus being a heel.
He had Roddy locked in the ropes and fish-hooked him, at which point the ref began to count for the break. Dragon broke the hold at four and told the ref “I have til five!” Then Dragon locked the same hold right back in! The ref counts again. Dragon breaks at four- “I have til five!” Then he lock it back in AGAIN.
Dragon had Roddy down on the outside, an nearby area of the crowd started chanting “OVER HERE! OVER HERE!” Dragon then pointed at that area, and went to toss Roddy over there… then said “You DON’T DESERVE IT!” and continued beating Roddy up right where he was.
Dragon also used Joe’s signature “OLÉ!” kick.
The finish was a bit awkward, but it worked.
Hold #712: ARM BAR!
