BRM Reviews ROH Weekend of Champions: Night 2

Post by Big Red Machine » Mar 9th, '11, 03:53

ROH Weekend of Champions, Night 2 (4/29/2006)- Cleveland, OH

CORNETTE, PEARCE, & WHITMER SEGMENT- Pretty good. Cornette puts over BJ, then shoes a bit of non-kayfabe breaking shooting on WWE. Cornette appoints Adam Pearce as Lt. Commissioner, while Cornette is out having surgery, and a GREAT promo by Adam Pearce, and a good promo by Conrette on Claudio. Pearce then got jumped by Nate Webb, who was, in turn chased off by Ace Steel.

IRISH AIRBORNE vs. COLT CABANA & CONRAD KENNEDY III- 5.75/10. Lots of fun. They got a lot of pops for standing side headlocks.

DELIRIOUS vs. CHRIS SABIN- 6/10

SIX MAN MAYHEM: Trik Davis vs. Jimmy Yang vs. Spud vs. Jay Fury vs. Flash Flanagan vs. Jimmy Jacobs (w/Lacey)- 7/10. REALLY FUN spotfest!
This match started out with Jimmy Jacobs going for a leapfrog… and tearing a hole in the crotch of his gear! HILARIOUS!

Claudio says that he wants to wrestles Joe hold for hold. Not fight him.

SAMOA JOE vs. CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI-6.25/10. Led perfectly into what came next.

ANYTHING GOES MATCH: BJ Whitmer vs. Super Dragon-7.25/10. GREAT match. Really made you feel invested in the match and the feud.
The more of it I see, the more I am REALLY getting into the ROH vs. CZW feud. Every little thing is perfect. It is left up to the fans to decide who the heels are, since neither side is innocent. I love how both sides heap indignities on each other, but in their own distinct way which very much fits in with the promotion. For example, CZW duct taped BJ Whitmer to the ropes and tortured him, while ROH guys went after Super Dragon’s mask, or dumped him on the curb outside and left him there like a piece of garbage.

MATT SYDAL vs. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS-8/10

TITLE vs. TITLE MATCH (under Pure Rules): ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson vs. ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness- 9.25/10. Sorry about the spoiler, but this might well be the BEST DUSTY FINISH EVER!

ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Austin Aries & Roderick Strong(c) vs. The Embassy (Alex Shelley & Jimmy Rave) (w/Daizee Haze)- 7.5/10. Kind of disappointing, but still main event worthy.

Overall this show was good. Dragon vs. Nigel is awesome, and the ROH vs. CZW stuff is great. The other matches on the card range from solid to great, making this show a definite pick up.
