Ring of Honor Wrestling's THE PINNACLE | “Honor is Real" | Episode 1 (2018)

Post by cero2k » Nov 26th, '18, 13:12

Ring of Honor has put out the first episode of their new webseries, The Pinnacle, on their YouTube page. You can see the episode below.

The video, produced by Lightning One (who are also behind the NWA’s Ten Pounds of Gold series) mainly focuses on what Ring of Honor is and how it differentiates itself from other promotions. Founded in 2002, ROH initially focused on in-ring wrestling, with stars such as Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, CM Punk and others becoming stars in the WWE. The video continued to push this, emphasizing in the in-ring wrestling as well as the Code of Honor.

Notable stars such as Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, The Briscoes, Jay Lethal, and Flip Goron among others talked about their Ring of Honor experience and why they feel ROH stands out from others.

It also plugged the upcoming Final Battle card which will take place on December 14. Cody will challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH title in the main event.

"Honor," they say? Well my response to that is this:

The Code of Honor was more than just a handshake. Anyone with access to Wikipedia will be able to tell you that. But their concept of the word "honor" in ROH is that people shook hands, and that's it. This whole thing showed a lack of understand of the circumstances that led to that whole idea being in place. Ian's comment that ROH offered people a second option of wrestling to watch is ridiculous. Lots of other indies existed before and were selling tapes (never mind stuff from Japan and Mexico). The problem is that most of them (and especially in the US and Canada) were still doing the Attitude Era/ECW/WCW stuff that people were sick of. Hence, the Code of Honor, which guaranteed to the audience that they wouldn't be f*cked on the finish. The whole "handshake" thing just existed as a mechanism to allow Daniels to get heat and stand out as a character while still doing all clean finishes.
But even if it was just about the handshakes, people refuse to shake hands so often nowadays in ROH that it's meaningless. Compare that to the heat that Daniels got by simply refusing to shake a man's hand after a loss. People don't get that much heat in the current ROH for cheating in world title matches!

And Lethal's claim that he was paying for tickets while Dragon, Joe, and Punk were champions is ridiculous. He was well on his way to becoming a regular even before Joe won the belt! He was Punk's first challenger for G-d's sake!

This whole thing was a bunch of revisionist, catchphrase-filled bullsh*t. The match quality and average match length in ROH today are nothing close to what they used to be. This was a sad attempt by an incompetent creative regime to position their work as a continuation of the work of much more talented individuals because they themselves know they cannot match it.

They should probably "just shut the whole thing down and get it over with already", hm?
When they come, they'll come at what you love.
