BRM Reviews ROH The Battle of St. Paul

Post by Big Red Machine » Jul 11th, '11, 19:30

ROH The Battle of St. Paul (4/27/2007)- St. Paul, MN

AUSTIN ARIES PROMO- good

DANGEROUS ANGELS (Allison Danger & Sara Del Rey) vs. THE MINNESOTA HOME WRECKING CREW (Rain & Lacey) (w/Jimmy Jacobs)- 5/10

RHETT TITUS vs. MICHAEL ELGIN- No Rating, but it lead perfectly into…

MICHAEL ELGIN vs. JIMMY RAVE- 4/10, Did a great job of making Rave look strong while still letting Elgin look impressive.

JIMMY JACOBS SEGMENT WITH THE ROH STUDENTS- good

SHINGO vs. BJ Whitmer- 6.5/10

ULTIMATE ENDURANCE MATCH FOR THE ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: The Briscoe Brothers(c) vs. Hallowicked & Gran Akuma vs. Pelle Primeau & Mitch Franklin vs. Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw- 6/10. I get that the point of this match was to make the Briscoes look strong, but everyone knew that there was no way in hell that a bunch of first time teams were going to take the belts off of the Briscoes. This left Quacken-Saw as the only duo to even stand a chance… and they weren’t given ANY nearfalls at all! In fact, I don’t think this match had any nearfalls in it. It just wasn’t very exciting. There is an awesome sequence in it that makes Quack look like a BEAST, though.

ANYTHING GOES MATCH: Homicide & Colt Cabana vs. Brent Albright & Adam Pearce (w/Shane Hagadorn)- 6.5/10

FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Jack Evans vs. Erick Stevens vs. Rocky Romero vs. Delirious- 5.75/10. Good storytelling, average wrestling

FIP WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Roderick Strong(c) vs. Christopher Daniels (w/Allison Danger)- 8/10 Danger looked ridiculously hot in cheerleader outfit.

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Takeshi Morishima(c) vs. Austin Aries- 7.5/10

Overall, this sow was slightly disappointing for an ROH show. It was still solid, but not the level I have come to expect from ROH, especially the Ultimate Endurance match.

is there a chance that this was the kayfabe reason of the match? cuz it does seem like a really really random bunch of teams to the point that the Briscoes seem to be the Odd man here (which reminds me we haven't played that game in a long time :-? )

No, simply because, ROH (both kayfabe and not) prides itself on good, competitive matches. They kayfabe would not bring in a bunch of ringers.

And even if that was the kayfabe reason for the match, that is a disgusting waste of both Quack, Jigsaw, & especially the two of them as a team.

I didn't like that the briscoes got the submission win of the match, they should have given this to Quack to at least build up a little to the third fall. Match was great nonetheless.

didn't like the finish, i'm ok with the count out, but not with the foot getting stuck thing.

i marked out at Aries hitting the brainbuster on Morishima

This was during the Briscoes' streak of winning straight falls in title matches (they were often booked in 2 out of 3 falls matches and won them in two straight), so having them not win a fall here would mess that up.
