BRM Reviews ROH Scramble Cage Melee

ROH Scramble Cage Melee (8/24/2004)- Braintree, MA

JAY LETHAL vs. ALEX SHELLEY (w/Generation Next)- 6.25/10

CARNAGE CREW PROMO- GREAT!

JIMMY RAVE (w/The Embassy) vs. ANGELDUST (w/Special K)- 6.75/10 Jimmy Rave is such a douche that I actually found myself rooting for a member of Special K.

ACE STEEL vs. RODERICK STRONG (w/Generation Next)- 6/10. Roddy tapping seemed to come out of nowhere. I think a roll-up would have been much better here. The post-match attack would have worked just as well, and it would have made Roddy look stronger.

COLT CABANA vs. AUSTIN ARIES (w/Roderick Strong & Alex Shelley)- 7/10

ROH TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Ricky Reyes & Rocky Romero(c) (w/Julius Smokes) vs. Izzy & Dixie (w/Special K)- 7.25/10 Good post-match stuff, starting the break-up of Special K.

ROH PURE TITLE MATCH: Doug Williams(c) vs. John Walters- 8/10. Good pre-match promo from Joe, too, setting up what would prove to be an unfortunately minor feud for the future.

RELAXED RULES MATCH: Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk vs. Homicide (w/Julius Smokes)- 7.5/10 The use of the fork really hurt this match. First of all, IMO, a fork is too vicious for a relaxed rules match… but that is just my opinion. The thing that really ruined it, though, is a spot where Joe had Cide in an STF and was stabbing him in the head with the fork at the same time. The ref felt that the violence using the fork was too much, so he took the fork away from Joe. If he thought the violence was too much… HE SHOULD HAVE DQed JOE! If you are TAKING A WEAPON AWAY, that means that its use has become too much. In a Relaxed Rules match, that means that it has past the point where you are willing to relax the rules, and that you should be DQING SOMEONE!

TRENT ACID PROMO- okay

SECOND CITY SAINTS-GEN NEXT BRAWL- good. Cabana comes out of it looking brave and he sold extremely well.

SCRAMBLE CAGE MATCH: Trent Acid vs. Loc vs. Devito vs. Dan Maff vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Jack Evans vs. Altar Boy luke vs. Fast Eddie vs. Diablo Santiago vs. Oman Tortuga vs. Dunn vs. Marcos- 6/10. Anything goes, but the only way to eliminate someone is a dive from a platform. Terrible gimmick. The match itself felt like a giant spotfest, because it was.

SPECIAL K SEGMENT- eh. Blue hair makes Becky Bayless look less hot.

JOHN WALTERS PROMO- great.

Overall, an okay show from ROH. The Pure Title match was great, but the ultra-hyped up gimmick which the show was based around utterly failed, and the rest of the card wasn’t enough to make up for it.
