BRM Reviews ROH Crowning A Champion

Post by Big Red Machine » Sep 12th, '12, 17:05

ROH Crowning A Champion (7/27/2002)- Philadelphia, PA

LOW KI PROMO- awesome

STEVE CORINO & SIMPLY LUCIOUS PROMO- great

SEGMENT WITH THE NATURAL BORN SINNERS, JAMES MARITATO, & TONY MAMALUKE-
Great!

TONY MAMALUKE vs. JEREMY LOPEZ- 5.75/10

PRINCE NAN & JACOBS LADDER vs. JOEY YORK & CHRISTIAN MATTHEWS (w/Alexis Laree)- 2/10
The match wasn’t very good, but Nana’s pre-match promo and the commentator’s debate over whether he was actually hurt made this fun. I particularly loved Corino’s exclamation of surprise “You mean [Cowboy Bob] Orton wasn’t hurt either?!”

WINNER OF THE FALL GETS AN ROH CONTRACT: Paul London & Don Juan vs. Michael Shane & Bio Hazard- 4.25/10
A short match, but a very well executed simultaneous pin spot. GREAT post-match segment, too.

DIVINE STORM vs. DA HIT SQUAD- 3.25/10

LOW KI & XAVIER SEGMENT- hmm… this seems small and innocuous. I doubt it will lead to anything important.

JAMES MARITATO vs. JAY BRISCOE- 5.25/10

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS PROMO- a bit over the top… but still great.

DOUG WILLIAMS PROMO- AWESOME
BUNKHOUSE MATCH: The Carnage Crew vs. The Natural Born Sinners- 6/10

Violent and brutal. This really helped get this over as a real feud.

SPANKY PROMO- AMAZING!

THE CARNAGE CREW & DUNN & MARCOS BACKSTAGE- good

THREE WAY ELIMINATION MATCH FOR THE NWA-TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH: AJ Styles(c) vs. David Young vs. Adam Jacobs- 6/10
Quick, but full of action.

RUDY BOY GONZALEZ PROMO- not good. Rudy having one of his students face Dragon instead of him felt very heelish.

RANDOM STUFF WITH SLUGGER CHOKESLAMMING PEOPLE-

IF SCOOT LOSES, HE VOWS TO LEAVE ROH: Scoot Andrews vs. Xavier- why would you clip this match? It is the blow-off to an angle you have been building to since the first show!

SIXTY MINUTE IRON-MAN MATCH TO CROWN THE FIRST-EVER ROH CHAMPION: Low Ki vs. Doug Williams vs. Spanky vs. Christopher Daniels- 9.5/10
Absolutely amazing storytelling here!

BONUS MATCH:
ICW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Low Ki(c) vs. Eddie Guerrero- 7.25/10

Overall, this was a one-match show, but that match is extremely awesome and extremely important.
Hold #712: ARM BAR!

Doesn't look much like him, but I can't say for sure
