Hey guys, I want to ask you all something that I was watching on DVD:
Its the AWA-The American Wrestling Association
Now, the AWA was so spectacular, it was one of the most successful wrestling organizations in the country.
However, too many bad business decisions and letting Vince McMahon steal talent caused the AWA to lose a bunch of talent.
But there are people that are blaming Verne Gagne for being "too stubborn"
and so, let me ask you all this:
What was the REAL Downfall of the AWA?
I mean, Jim Ross said on the DVD, why didn't they sign the contract?
and Mean Gene said that the reason they left the AWA for the WWF (now WWE) was money and opportunity.
Please make your list on all of this.

Gagne was too old fashioned... Unwilling to change with the times.

This. Even the more traditional "rasslin" promotions down south realized that you needed to have some compromise, and they managed to do that by having more gimmicky characters that didn't require sacrificing ringwork. Gange didn't do this.yourcrapsweak wrote:Gagne was too old fashioned... Unwilling to change with the times.

Re: What was the Downfall of the AWA?
They let Hogan go to the WWF. He could have been their(the AWA's) saviour had they used him the right way. Agreed about Verne not being willing to change with the times, and about him being stubborn.
Plus, he pushed his son to the moon. Don't get me wrong, Greg Gagne was an accomplished wrestler, but it just wasn't believable at his size beating the guys he was beating.
Overall, it was just being run bad towards the end, and this was when the WWF was going national. They didn't stand a chance.
