Sammy Guevara & Andrade El Idolo Backstage Fight at AEW Dynamite

Post by XIV » Oct 6th, '22, 04:24

This may sound all too familiar as it pertains to AEW these days – but another backstage altercation took place prior to Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite TV tapings.

According to a report from TMZ Sports, there was an “altercation” between Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara. Over the weekend, things between the two men became extremely heated on social media and it came to a head prior to AEW Dynamite going on the air.

Following the altercation, AEW President Tony Khan took to Twitter to announce that Andrade has been pulled from his scheduled mask vs. career match against 10. That match was scheduled for this week’s live episode of AEW Rampage.

One source said things began as a verbal altercation and then got physical, with Guevara shoving Andrade. At that point, Andrade reportedly threw a punch. As of this writing, there is no word on if the punch or punches connected. This is not said to be part of any work. Andrade was sent home from the TV tapings.

Guevara appeared in a backstage segment on AEW Dynamite, and then appeared in the main event so he clearly wasn’t sent home.

Andrade took to Twitter following the fight and wrote, “respect me and I’ll respect you”

As a result, the match between Andrade & Preston Vance has been removed from AEW Rampage.

How does Sammy keep getting away with bits? Get involved in an altercation, appear in the main event. Joke.

Not saying Andrade doesn't carry some blame here, because he does. But this is repeat situations that Sammy seems to find himself in.

Here comes Uncle Dave's opinion...
Andrade El Idolo's recent actions are those of a man actively trying to get himself fired from All Elite Wrestling, reports Dave Meltzer.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer commented that "Andrade is trying to get fired, we all know that." He noted that in the past, people have gone to extremes to get out of wrestling contracts, even in WWE - and this includes things worse than fighting with coworkers:-

"There are some crazy stories of wrestlers trying to get fired. Getting in a fight was never one of them, but there are things much crazier than that from people who wanted to leave and get out, and were not going to be allowed to do that because the company wasn't going to release them."

Ah yes, like """feigning""" to relapse so you can join your brother for a billionth reunion that lasted five seconds before "oh no you weren't feigning after all Jeff... anyway, let's act shocked for appearances!!!".

I've made my point about Rapeface already, the guy (and his wife quite frankly) isn't worth the headache and is only safe because he's hanging out with Jericho. It's kinda the same with Andrade really : he's another guy who "was going to prove good ol' Vince wrong now that the shackles are off!!!" and... pretty much proved him right instead. Now yes, he's been booked like absolute shit with countless two-week managers, ending as the leader of... the Hardy Family Team or whatever the hell that was and I'm sure he'd rather go back to Hunter's booked WWE with his wife (you cannot tell me this wasn't the main reason they brought him in btw) than do meaningless shit in AEW.

And again, Tiny should grow a spine and just release Andrade if he wants out so badly (it's not like they've invested much in him and Charlotte ain't coming anyway) and tell Guevara to knock it down several pegs or he'll be suspended without pay (instead he's rewarded, totally not playing favorites here).

This. Sammy is the one who made it physical first. It will be interesting to see if "punish the guy who hit second" is invoked in the Punk vs. Bucks case as well.

These are Tony’s first big backstage fight situations, how he resolves these will determine how people see him moving forward.

That's what I'm getting at. Will he be seen as being consistent or as playing favorites?

He has to be extremely careful, because one of these situations has legal input, so anything that's resolved in one will affect the other.
