TJPW 8th Tokyo Princess Cup, Day 7
August 15, 2021
Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan

UpUp Girls - They sang Jump Around by House of Pain. I don't know if TJPW will ever tour the US or the UK, but if they do, the crowd would go crazy for it.

Miyu Yamashita vs. Moka Miyamoto - 4.5/10
Well, talk about wrestling out of your league. The Ace and champion of TJPW versus one of the greenest rookies. Of course Yamashita won after a couple of hope spots and total destruction of Moka. Yamashita won with an AA.

Hyper Misao & Kaya Toribami vs. BAKURETSU Sisters (Nodoka Tenma & Yuki Aino) - 5.5/10
This was for the most part comedy, with Misao taking Toribami as a hero in training (because she's the only other masked wrestling in the promotion) and trying to train her during the match, except everything she was teaching Toribami were heelish tricks to do on the Sisters. Some of the action was good, but it ended up being an easy win for the Sisters when Aino hit the Venus DDT on Toribami for the win.

Haruna Neko, Mahiro Kiryu & Yuki Kamifuku vs. BeeStar (Mirai Maiumi & Suzume) & Miu Watanabe - 5/10
Ok match, nothing newsworthy happening. Miu won with a Tear Drop over Neko.

Arisu Endo & Hikari Noa vs. NEO Biishiki-gun (Mei Saint-Michel & Sakisama) - 6.5/10
This was really fun just because of Mei's shenanigan's and acting, she's special. Beyond that, nothing really special, just a strong win for BIIshiki-gun. Since Noa is the International champion, I figured we may see Mei get the win and challenge, or even Noa could win and challenge for the tag titles, but nope, Mei just submitted Endo while Sakisama kept Noa outside. Really really fun match though.

Aja Kong, Marika Kobashi, Raku & Rika Tatsumi vs. Magical Sugar Rabbits (Mizuki & Yuka Sakazaki), Nao Kakuta & Pom Harajuku - 7/10
Rika Tatsumi with braided hair and Kobashi with the orange attire, all in honor of Aja Kong I guess. This match had some glimpses to yesterday's Kong match, where she doesn't do much, but she knows exactly how to treat and get treated by her smaller and younger opponents. This one went a bit beyond though, this all built to the inevitable Aja Kong versus Yuka Sakazaki face-off, and it was exactly what it needed to be, with Sakazaki not really making a dent on Kong until she managed to drop her to a knee , and once she achieved that, the Rabbits paired up to take her out of the match for some time, well, Kong took them out, but she was tired enough to tag out. Match came down to Mizuki pinning Raku for the win.

Also worth mentioning, Tatsumi was really good in this match, she paired up with pretty much everyone, but her stuff with Kakuta was particularly good.

Tokyo Princess Cup 2021 Final Match
Shoko Nakajima vs. Maki Itoh - 8/10
I think this is best appreciated when you come in knowing this is Nakajima's 5th final, of which she has one the tournament once before. This is Itoh's first ever final, and she's coming in with a broken cheekbone, that likely got reinjured last night against Mizuki. Itoh also happens to be know for being all talk and zero results, she talks a big game, but she doesn't actually have the ability to back it up in the ring when she comes face to face with the true top wrestlers in TJPW, namely Shoko Nakajima, a former champion, in this case, but Itoh has made it this far.

This wasn't as dramatic as yesterday's match versus Mizuki, but the difference in experience made it so that everything looked lost for Itoh until she reached deep inside and burnt her cosmo to the sky and got the win. Also different from yesterday, Nakajima is not friends with Itoh and didn't care about going knee first into Itoh's broken cheekbone. And so, Itoh who had started strong, eventually got cut off and viciously punished by Nakajima who went for the neck. Itoh kept pushing and working Shoko's back every chance she had and eventually it started to make a difference. Last couple of minutes saw Shoko turn it up to 11 on the viciousness and go for the kill, but Itoh kept coming back, Shoko survived a Itoh Punishment, but when she tried to follow with a 619, Itoh blocked, locked in the Itoh Deluxe, and submitted Nakajima to win the 8th Tokyo Princess Cup.

Post-match - Itoh, with tears in her eyes, thanked Mizuki and Nakajima for making her better. She said that this wasn't a happy ending for them, but this match was a step on their path to their respective happy endings.

Miyu Yamashita came out. Itoh told her that when they had their match on January 4th, Yamashita completely changed Itoh's world for the best. Yamashita congratulated her and told her that they should have a match for the Princess of Princess Championship, and it should be at Wrestle Princess II. Yamashita told her Itoh was ready, but even if she's the cutest in the world, Yamashita just looks best wearing this title.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Just a great ending to the tournament. It was a nice 7 show tour that has finally come to a close and it sets up the main event of the biggest show in TJPW's history, the Ota Ward Gymnasium show on 10.9.

The show itself was a mix of everything, some really good matches, some ok matches, but overall, a fun show to watch.
