NJPW G1 Climax 29 Finals
August 12, 2019
Tokyo, Japan

Clark Connors & Karl Fredericks vs. Ren Narita & Yota Tsuji - 7/10
This was pretty darn good. LA Dojo kids are cocky American heels, the New Japan Dojos were defending their turf, but they sent the two weaker guys, and so they kinda got their asses kicked. Connors submitted Tsuji with a Boston Crab. I can't wait for the US shows so the NJDojo comes for revenge!

Post-match - There was a pull apart when the Americans kept being cocky. Uemura stepped up to the fight. Shota was nowhere to be seen. Probably hanging out with the hoodlum.

Suzuki-gun (Lance Archer, Taichi & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) vs. Jeff Cobb, Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask - 6/10
Lot of love for Liger in his final Budokan match, where he hadn't been in for a long time. This mostly build Archer vs Cobb stuff, which at this point may at most be something in either ROH or the US shows. Taichi kept going for Liger and Tiger's masks. Cobb hit a Tour of the Islands on Kanemaru for the win.

BULLET CLUB (Chase Owens, Taiji Ishimori & Yujiro Takahashi) vs. CHAOS (Will Ospreay & Roppongi 3K) - 6/10
Short match, but good overall. BC beat up R3K for a while until Ospreay came in, who worked mostly with Yujiro, building to Ospreay beating another heavyweight. Owens looked really good here. Ospreay beat Yujiro with Stormbreaker.

Juice Robinson & Toa Henare vs. Jon Moxley & Shota Umino - 4/10
They continued building what they started yesterday, and that is Juice chasing the US title from Moxley. The match wasn't much, Henare beat Umino with Toa Bottom.

Post-match - Mox attacked Juice from behind, and put him through a table.

CHAOS (Hirooki Goto & Toru Yano), Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, EVIL, SANADA, Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito) - 5/10
Not much of this match until Goto came in. Taguchi did comedy, Honma got worked on, and Makabe and Yano were kinda irrelevant really. SANADA pinned Honma with a moonsault.

Post-match - They did the group fist bump. I was hoping Hiromu would return to announce he was entering the Super J Cup. God I miss Hiromu. Anyway, it's relevant to say that it was SANADA who started the fist bump and not Naito, and EVIL participated this time around.

BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) (w/Jado) vs. CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI) & KENTA - 6/10
Ishii hit a Brainbuster on Fale. There is nothing else that needs to be mentioned.

Dammit, I guess it's really eventful to not talk about it. Match was mostly nothing. Ishii fighting anyone was great, YOSHI-HASHI was a geek. Thing here is that when Ishii looked to tag KENTA, that fucker turned heel, skipped the tag, and left Ishii and YH to die, but they didn't until KENTA came back and hit the GTS on Ishii to set him up for Tama Tonga for the pin.

Post-match - THIS WAS FUCKING EPIC! KENTA and company take out Ishii and YOSHI-HASHI. KENTA is about to cut a promo when out from the back, of all people, Katsuyori FUCKING SHIBATA runs down and no words spoke, he straight up knocks down KENTA with a forearm! Shibata attacks KENTA in the corner, takes out Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Fale, but the numbers game is too much, he gets distracted, and KENTA chokes him out with a little help of Jado's Kendo stick. Once down, KENTA sits down ON TOP of Shibata as the Bullet Club and their new member celebrate over Shibata's body.

I don't know if Shibata is wrestling again, but he looked AMAZING. Great shape and was moving naturally. Granted no one touched his head at all.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kazuchika Okada vs. Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki & Zack Sabre Jr.) - 8/10
They kinda stared yesterday, but this cemented Suzuki and Sabre's next feuds, as Suzuki pinned Okada with the GSP in a dominant way.

The match was great. Tanahashi and Okada, while working their own feuds, actually did some great tag work, tons of tags and keeping each other safe, making saves, stuff like that. Sabre and Tanahashi did the usual submission and striking stuff. Okada and Suzuki went for each other's heads, with Suzuki doing a lot of work towards choking out Okada and hitting the GSP. Ending visual was Sabre holding Tana with a submission, while Suzuki hit the GSP and casually pinned the champ.

Post-match - Suzuki cut a promo making fun of Okada for being beat by someone that wasn't even in the G1. Suzuki said that he wants the IWGP title. Suzuki I-CHI-BAN! I think Suzuki is the perfect challenger for Destruction or KOPW, leave SANADA for Power Struggle.

G1 Climax 2019 Final Match
Jay White (w/Gedo) vs. Kota Ibushi - 9.75/10
Yesterday White said that not even Gedo would be out here with him, instead, the whole Bullet Club, including KENTA, came out with him. Red Shoes immediately sent everyone to the back. Gedo convinced him so he could stay with Jay, but within the first minutes of the match, Gedo got involved and Red Shoes sent him to the back.

Story of the match was that White worked over Ibushi's hurt leg (from the tournament and yesterday), and kept that control for a while, but when Ibushi started to make a comeback and get offense in, White executed plan B, as in bumping Red Shoes and bringing out Gedo to further work on Ibushi's leg with a chair and going for the submission win, exactly what he did with Juice Robinson in their match. Ibushi didn't tap, recovered, took out Gedo, and both him and White started chasing their finishers. They battled for wrist control between Kamigoye and Bloody Sunday. They traded some big moves before Ibushi started landing Kamigoyes, taking 3 of them to finally put down White for the pin

Post-match - Ibushi cut a promo inviting everyone to go along with him and make NJPW the biggest promotion in the world. This is a promo you get behind of. Backstage, he gave beers to everyone in the press to cheer along with him and celebrate the win. Ibushi is full of positive vibes, like when he talks, he has an aura of promise and good times.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
It was a hell of a G1 Tournament, so it was going to be hard to have a finals show that wasn't overshadowed by the last weekend and the amount of MOTYC we saw in the last month. The show was strong and fun, from top to bottom, and it actually went by really fast. The Shibata angle, the Suzuki win, and Ibushi's feel good win will make this an all time classic show.
