NJPW New Japan Cup 2022, Day 12
March 20, 2022
Aore Nagaoka, Nagaoka, Japan

Kosei Fujita, Ryohei Oiwa & Yuto Nakashima vs. CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano & YOH) - 6/10
Fun match, I always enjoy when all the Young Lions are on the same side, it forces them to work together like rabid animals doing anything to win. Ishii versus Fujita was probably the best thing, next to YOH versus Nakashima, which ended with YOH getting the win with a Falcon Arrow.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Satoshi Kojima vs. Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) - 7/10
Really good match, it's a combination that I wouldn't mind seeing grow into an actual rivalry for the tag titles. Bishamon won with Shoto over Kojima.

Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa), Six Or Nine (Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi) & Jado vs. BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens, El Phantasmo, Gedo & Taiji Ishimori) - 6/10
This had a really cool looking entrance with both teams coming face-to-face, but after that, the match was just ok. A lot of 6||9 versus BC's Cutest Tag Team, and then G.O.D. versus Fale and Owens. At the end, it came down to Owens pinning Jado after Gedo took him out with brass knucks and a knee from Owens.

Suzuki-gun (El Desperado, Minoru Suzuki, TAKA Michinoku & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) vs. House Of Torture (Dick Togo, EVIL, SHO & Yujiro Takahashi) - 6.5/10
Match was your quintessential House of Torture match that has good wrestling with tons of cheating. Kanemaru was the babyface in peril, Despy the hot tag and meat of the match versus SHO, we got a bit of EVIL and Suzuki pairing up, and at the end, Yujiro pinned TAKA.

Post-match - SHO and Despy brawled for a bit until SHO got the upper hand.

Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) & Tiger Mask vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi & Shingo Takagi) - 5.5/10
Ok match, the strongest part of the match was Tiger Mask versus Hiromu, and that was about it. Honma lost to Shingo's Bomber.

Post-match - Shingo and Hiromu kept teasing each other, but nothing happened, it all went down peacefully.

Suzuki-gun (DOUKI, Taichi & Zack Sabre Jr.) vs. United Empire (Aaron Henare, Great-O-Khan & Will Ospreay) - 7.5/10
Really good match, we didn't only get Sabre versus Ospreay, which never fails to deliver, but we algo got a new and fresh pair up with Taichi and O-Khan, and at the end, we got a little bit of Henare being a badass, taking down DOUKI for the win.

New Japan Cup 2022 Quarter Final Match
Tetsuya Naito vs. Jeff Cobb (w/Aaron Henare, Great-O-Khan & Will Ospreay) - 8/10
Strong match built around Naito working Cobb's injured leg, and Cobb being a monster that can stop Naito on his tracks and throw him around the ring. At the end, Naito prevailed with a Destino.

New Japan Cup 2022 Quarter Final Match
CIMA vs. Kazuchika Okada - 8.5/10
This if the first time in both men's careers that they've been in the ring together, and they got to do it in a singles match in a quarter finals match of the New Japan Cup. The match was quite good, but far from an all time classic. Match revolved around CIMA working Okada's neck and throat towards the Meteora, which he did managed to land, he hit the springboard Meteora to the back of the head, the hit a normal top rope one, but then he went for the no-kneepad Meteora, Okada finally dodged it and CIMA went crashing, only to get pinned a couple of minutes later with a Rainmaker.

Post-match - Okada, in a show of respect, vowed to CIMA prior to cutting his winner's promo.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Good show overall, it went by really fast, the second half of the show was for the most part really good, and we got to see a first-time match with CIMA and Okada.
