NJPW New Japan Cup 2022 Finals
March 27, 2022
Osaka-Jo Hall, Osaka, Japan

BUSHI vs. Kosei Fujita - 5.5/10
Good, short, basic match with BUSHI winning with a Boston Crab.

Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa), Six Or Nine (Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi) & Jado vs. BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens, El Phantasmo, Gedo & Taiji Ishimori) - 4.5/10
This was the same thing we've seen now since the Bullet Club turn, if anything, this heavily relied on Jado and Gedo fighting in the ring, until the end when Owens caught Jado with a running knee and Gedo pinned him.

CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano & YOH) vs. Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki, Taichi & Yoshinobu Kanemaru)
At this point, there is no denying it, they're building to Taichi vs YRT in some sort of Sumo competition for the trophy. It seems to make sense since Sabre is most definitely getting a singles program right now and we won't have Tekkers for a while. In addition, we're getting a lot of Suzuki versus Ishii, I won't really complain about it. Taichi also had a really good pair up with YOH here, that ended with Taichi getting the win with the Yokozuna Elbow.

Post-match - Taichi mocked Yano with Sumo posing, while Ishii and Suzuki brawled to the back.

Suzuki-gun (El Desperado & TAKA Michinoku) vs. House Of Torture (SHO & Yujiro Takahashi) - Dud
SHO and Yujiro jumped SZKG from behind during the entrances, SHO forced the referee to start the match, locked in a Triangle choke on TAKA and tapped him out while he made Despy watch. It was short and different, doing this every so often is quite welcomed.

Post-match - SHO ripped off Despy's mask and hit the Shock Arrow on him. SHO officially made the jr title challenge.

Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) & Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) vs. United Empire (Aaron Henare, Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb & Will Ospreay) - 6/10
We got Ospreay versus Makabe, and that was a weird combo that I didn't think I'd enjoy seeing as much. This match also had a rare occurrence of Ospreay not being in position for a spot, so he had to run and good for him that Makabe was there to quickly bump him into such position. Cobb pinned Honma with the Tour of the Islands.

Post-match - O-Khan and Cobb officially challenged Bishamon for the tag titles and took them out. Henare and Ospreay took care of Makabe.

Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi & Shingo Takagi) vs. House Of Torture (Dick Togo & EVIL) - 6.5/10
Good match, HoT really tried to turn the match into their Hiromu and Shingo are too strong of a force to get overtaken by cheap tricks and Togo. Shingo did get low blowed at one point after he stopped Togo from using his wire, but Hiromu quickly recovered eitherway. Hiromu pinned Togo with an EVERYTHING IS EVIL, the same way that Hiromu pinned EVIL during the tournament, reason why EVIL is now targeting Hiromu intently.

Post-match - EVIL tried to attack Hiromu, but Hiromu got him, took EVIL's Openweight title, and challenged him to wrestle fr the title.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada, Satoshi Kojima & Tiger Mask vs. STRONGHEARTS (CIMA, El Lindaman & T-Hawk) & Tatsumi Fujinami (w/Issei Onitsuka) - 8/10
I have no idea why Fujinami is here, nor why is he teaming with #STRONGHEARTS, but here we are. Since we're celebrating here, Tiger Mask came out with the original attire, the rest just wore their usual get-up.

This was great. We got some Fujinami versus Okada, Tana, and Kojima, but my favorite part probably was T-Hawk versus Kojima, leading into Kojima being isolated. We got some good Tana versus Lindamana and Okada versus T-Hwak that were great, dream pair ups of mine. Okada pinned T-Hawk with the Rainmaker.

Fujinami really does look good for his age.

Post-match - The winning team all saluted Fujinami. CIMA was the one to tell Fujinami to take the stage while they were all already heading out. You notice the little things that CIMA does when he's not on focus, and you realize he's a gentleman and master of the business.

New Japan Cup 2022 Final Match
Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre Jr. - 9/10
Sabre is wearing gold and black trunks, boy was ready to win a cup. While he's always been like this, Sabre in the last year has really established himself in New Japan as a guy that can win with literally anything and at any point of the match, tapping out the biggest names. He's one of those wrestlers that you never really know how the matches will go down.

This match was great, Naito kept going for the head, while Sabre initially started with submission, but as Naito kept dropping him on the head, Sabre started going for Naito's head, until he managed to drop him twice with the Sabre Driver for the win. Just great back and forth wrestling.

Sabre is now a 2x New Japan Winner

Post-match - Sabre thanked Naito for the match. Sabre put over his vegan diet, and said that he's the next IWGP Champion. Taichi came out and took pics of Sabre along with the rest of the photographers, then celebrated with him. Taichi is a true friend.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Good show, went by really fast. Most of the undercard was to set up matches for the upcoming Hyper Battle show, but the last two were most definitely unique, fun, and full of great wrestling.
