BRM Reviews the 7/3/2014 NXT

Post by Big Red Machine » Jul 7th, '14, 01:29

COLIN & ENZO PROMO- great, as always, but Enzo's new haircut doesn't fit with the gimmick at all. It also looks stupid.

COLIN CASSADY (w/Enzo Amore) vs. SYLVESTER LEFORT (w/Marcus Louis)- complete and total squash.
The Legionnaires need new music. Also, can we please get some clarification on whether Colin Cassady is from New Jersey or Queens? Everyone says he's from NJ, but all of his moves and his tights reference Queens.
Colin squashes Lefort in two moves. WHY? Why squash him like this? He is possibly the best talker in developmental! And didn't we just get this same squash a few weeks ago?

ADRIAN NEVILLE & TYLER BREEZE- eh
Breeze interrupts Neville's interview (in which they reminded us that he beat RVD last week) and says that he can cash his title shot in at any time. Since when was this MITB-style?!
Neville says he'll defend the title against Breeze at any time, and offers to give Breeze a title match tonight. Breeze says that he can't because he sustained a "career-threatening injury" in a "hand-modelling accident." He apparently has a broken finger.

THE BFFS (Sasha Banks & Charlotte) vs. BECKY LYNCH & BAILEY- 4/10
Yeah... after watching that inset promo from Bailey (and Becky's annoying "HI!") I now want the BFFs to just murder them both.
Regal asked "could you put a better pairing together than Bailey and Becky Lynch?" Yes you can, and it's not hard. Just replace Bailey with ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROSTER!
Actually, after watching this match I have concluded that Bailey is actually pretty decent when she is just wrestling and not talking or hugging or... you know... being Bailey.
Great booking here with Charlotte going over on Becky clean. The champ gets a clean win, but doesn't beat Bailey, who beat her a few weeks back, keeping Bailey in line for a title shot. We also get to show that Charlotte and Sasha are on the same page; they only run into problems when Summer is around. In beating Becky, Charlotte has also beaten the girl who beat Summer just last week, so they have more ammo to throw at her. Lastly, Sasha got to still be heelish after her clean win by trash-talking Becky, and Bailey got to take Sasha out for it, further cementing this friendship between Bailey and Becky and also letting Bailey get over on Charlotte's BFF.

JUSTIN GABRIEL PROMO- he tries to put over Sami Zayn, but Tyson Kidd shows up and calls Zayn a loser. He tells Justin "you're a main roster star," which caused me to burst out laughing. Justin is about as much of a main roster guy as Tyson himself is. Tyson said that Justin would fall into purgatory and not get used on TV if he wasn't careful, and said that the only way to stop it was by beating the NXT guys. Justin said that he would prove Tyson wrong by beating Sami Zayn tonight... which is exactly what Tyson wants him to do isn't it? This was all very confusing. I think there was some logic in here, but it was way too convoluted for me to follow. Devin Taylor looked great in the background, though.

BFFS BACKSTAGE- Wait... what the f*ck? NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
THEY RUINED EVERYTHING!
Sasha gets pissy because Charlotte didn't come and help her up after Bailey tossed her out of the ring before. This led to them breaking up in a terribly scripted, stupid way. We also found out from Sasha (rather than by some sort of official notification) that there is going to be a #1 contendership match pitting Bailey (who has already pinned the champ) against Summer Rae, who hasn't won a match on NXT in forever. WHAT THE F*CK?!

STEVE CUTLER vs. CJ PARKER- squash
Regal's immediate reaction to CJ Parker was to shout "GO AWAY, HIPPIE!" He also said that CJ was "incredibly credible," which must be some sort of paradox.
Cutler is apparently a former marine. He got squashed by the hippie, CJ Parker. Somewhere, an army general from the 1960s is screaming.

CJ PARKER PROMO- he says that Xavier Woods has been a goof since coming up to the main roster, but if he got that chance, he would be winning titles and changing the world.

RENEE YOUNG SIT DOWN INTERVIEW WITH TYSON KIDD- very good
It was clear that TJ was saying all the right things and he seemed to mean them, but it was also quite clear that the thing he was saying were bothering him. At the end, Renee asked TJ about rumors that he and Nattie have been having "marital problems" and TJ walked off. The way she brought it up was organic enough, but Renee still came off as kind of mean at the end. You knew she was just doing her job and you can't be angry at her for it... but it also really helped you sympathize with TJ when he walked off.

SAMI ZAYN vs. JUSTIN GABRIEL- 7/10
This was one of those matches that you'll occasionally see on NXT that just leaves you baffled as to why WWE has not found something to do with a guy like Justin Gabriel or Kurt or Hawkins (or until recently, Tyson Kidd).
Speaking of Tyson, he was at ringside to watch this match, and he jumped Sami after it. Gabriel seemed disapproving at first, but eventually decided to join in the beatdown. Adrian Neville came out to make the save.

A good episode of NXT
