BRM Reviews the 4/24/2019 NXT (awesome)

HUMBERTO CARRILLO vs. JAXSON RYKER (w/the Forgotten Sons)- no rating, good segment
They did stuff until Ryker took over. They wound up on the outside and Ryker just went nuts beating Carrillo up. The official result was a double count-out. Burch & Lorcan came out with a chair to save Carrillo. Ryker felt completely crazy and dangerous and out of control here.

ADAM COLE INTERVIEW- GREAT SEGMENT!
Cole was asked about tonight’s Roddy vs. Gargano match. He said that Gargano was a coward for not calling out “the leader of the Undisputed Era, which is obviously me,” and that Roddy would beat Gargano’s ass, just like he would if Gargano had challenged him. Matt Riddle, who was “next in line for the photoshoot, bro,” called Cole out for being jealous of Roddy. Cole stormed off.

VANESSA BOURNE & ALIYAH vs. CANDICE LERAE & KACY CATANZARO- 3/10
This was fine for the time it got and had a good babyface heel dynamic. Candice (or whoever was laying the match out) remembered that this is a developmental territory so Aliyah, Bourne, and Kacy did most of the work. All of them looked fine.

CATHY KELLEY INTERVIEWS IO SHIRAI- Io starts to vow revenge on Shayna Baszler but gets jumped from behind and beaten up by the Horsewomen.

KUSHIDA VIDEO PACKAGE- fine

REGAL INTERVIEW- He talks up KUSHIDA’s debut next week. They’re pushing KUSHIDA as “the most exciting thing to happen in a long time on NXT. Then Kassius Ohno showed up and proposed a match between him and KUSHIDA. Ohno left, and Regal made the match official.

STREET PROFITS vs. WAR RAIDERS- 6.75/10
Montez Ford dove onto the War Raiders while they were still making their entrance to jump-start the match. This was short but all big moves and totally nuts with a crazy atmosphere where pretty much anything felt like it could be the finish. War Raiders picked up the win with “Thor’s Hammer,” which is the same move that was called “the Viking Experience” on Raw this week, just to add to the confusion.

MIA YIM PRESS CONFERENCE- She did her best trying to remember or read off of cue cards a promo that was very clearly written by someone other than her. This came off like a goofy main roster promo where they have to say the official hype phrase for each person they talk about.

RODERICK STRONG vs. JOHNNY GARGANO- 8.25/10
The announcers made a big deal out of Roddy coming out without the rest of Undisputed Era. The match was exactly what you’d expect, with Roddy being the heel and working the back while Gargano was the scrappy babyface and went for the Gargano Escape. He eventually managed to get it in but Adam Cole came down to causing a distraction. Fish & O’Reilly soon followed, but Matt Riddle came out and attacked them. Cole threw a superkick intended for Gargano but it accidentally hit Roddy, allowing Gargano to get the win. Cole and Roddy started to argue after the match but Fish & O’Reilly calmed them down.

An awesome episode of NXT, with some great wrestling and several great angles.
