BRM Reviews the 5/15/2019 NXT UK

Post by Big Red Machine » May 15th, '19, 21:07

PIPER NIVEN vs. JAMIE HAYTER- squash
Hayter got no entrance. Seeing her used as a total jobber is a shame because she’s quite talented.

TONI STORM PRESS CONFERENCE- This was her chance to respond to Nina Samuels’ comments from last week about Toni abandoning her family. She responded in a fairly convincing manner. She’s so angry that she is willing to put her title on the line to get a match with Nina... which she knows is exactly what Nina wants but she doesn’t care because Nina has no idea what she is unleashing. I thought this was very good.

SID SCALA & KASSIUS OHNO BACKSTAGE- good
Ohno interrupts Scala being asked for his thoughts on Dunne vs. WALTER. Ohno is unhappy about being left out of the #1 contendership qualifiers. Sid says he’ll talk to Johnny Saint and he’ll get back to Ohno next week.

#1 CONTENDERSHIP QUALIFIER: Jordan Devlin vs. Ligero- 6.5/10
Devlin won clean.

RADZIE INTERVIEWS JORDAN DEVLIN- Devlin cut a GREAT arrogant heel promo saying he should just be named the #1 contender.

WALTER VIDEO PACKAGE- excellent

MOUSTACHE MOUNTAIN INTERVIEW- meh
They think Dunne is going to beat WALTER. Trent Seven insists that they deserve a rematch against the Grizzled Young Veterans for the tag titles, but I have no idea why he thinks they are entitled to a rematch.

ILJA DRAGUNOV vs. JACK STARZ- no rating, decent semi-squash
In possibly the worst decision that has been made so far in NXT UK, they gave Ilja stereotypical Russian entrance music, complete with a deep male voice singing in Russian. What Ilja needs is speed metal.
As a semi-squash, this was fine, as Starz’s offense was mostly there to get over Ilja’s character, but I don’t think this match did a good job of capturing what makes Ilja Dragunov Ilja Dragunov.

RADZIE INTERVIEWS NOAM DAR & MARK ANDREWS- good
Dar says that his brutal match against Andrews recently that ended with both of them getting stretched off has made him realize that he really wants to be here in NXT UK so he’s going to stop being a jerk like he has been recently. I don’t buy it. Both men put over that it will be nice to have a match with definitive winner. They’re having a rematch soon.

KILLER KELLY vs. XIA BROOKSIDE- no rating, decent segment
They traded holds for a while until Jinny interrupted them. Jinny then brought out her new muscle: Jazzy Gabbert. Kelly decided it wasn’t worth the fight and bailed. Xia tried to stand her ground but got beaten up.

Johnny Saint tweeted an announcement that Toni Storm vs. Nina Samuels will take place in two weeks.

#1 CONTENDERSHIP QUALIFIER: Dave Mastiff vs. Wolfgang- 4.25/10
Mastiff won a shockingly short match. This made Wolfgang look like a complete and total geek after all of his big talking last week.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- meh
The Coffey Brothers come out to attack Mastiff after the match, resulting in him getting triple-teamed and destroyed by Gallus. As this vicious three on one assault is happening, the fans are all chanting “WE ARE GALLUS!”

WALTER VS. DUNNE VIDEO PACKAGE- excellent
This match is going to have some pretty damn high expectations with the way they have built it up over the past few weeks.

A decent episode of NXT UK, moving things along steadily. The next few weeks of shows are going to be HUGE.
Hold #712: ARM BAR!
