BRM Reviews the 3/13/2020 205 Live (weird)

TEN-MAN ELIMINATION TAG TEAM MATCH: Team NXT (Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Tyler Breeze, KUSHIDA, Danny Burch, & Oney Lorcan) vs. Team 205 Live (Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari, Brian Kendrick, Mike Kanellis, & Jack Gallagher) (w/the Singh Brothers)- 6.75/10
KUSHIDA is a good get for a mystery partner for the babyfaces. I have no idea why the Singh Brothers are at ringside for this match.
There was so much about his match that was way too weird. First and foremost was the empty arena setting, but that is, at this point, unavoidable if you want to have a wrestling show at all. Then there is the construction of this feud, where the “home team” are heels. It does make sense, but it came off as kind of weird, especially with the distinction between who was originally on NXT not really ever having felt relevant before someone decided to make it relevant last month or whenever.
Then there was the booking. It was a mess. It felt like they wanted to protect people because they needed to do ten eight eliminations in about twenty minutes, but it also didn’t seem to have much of a goal other than to have the match, in which case why would you book it as an elimination match where you feel the need to protect so many people? The only thing that they did see to succeed in getting over was the idea of Gallagher as a loner heel who couldn’t get along with the others, but then having him lose two on one at the end felt like it flew in the face of the idea of getting him over.
There was also some other stuff I didn’t like, such as wrestlers who are already eliminated attacking wrestlers who are still in the match and it not causing a DQ, but for the most part, this was just a weird match every which way, which felt hampered from living up to the talents of competitors.
