BRM Reviews the 10/14/2021 NXT UK (ILJA VS. A-KID!)

Post by Big Red Machine » Dec 23rd, '21, 16:14

We’ve got a new theme song, and we’ve got fans back!

BLAIR DAVENPORT vs. STEVIE TURNER- 4/10
A solid win for Davenport while still letting Turner look credible.

DUMB CRAP WITH NOAM DAR AND SHA SAMUELS- Samuels wanted to throw Dar a celebration for winning the Heritage Cup #1 contendership tournament, but whoever was doing the decorations screwed up and it said “happy birthday” instead.

ROHAN RAJA MAKES EXCUSES TO TEOMAN FOR WHY NEITHER OF THEM WON THE HERITAGE CUP TOURNAMENT- fine
He says that they were outnumbered. Instead of yelling at him, as you would expect from a heel. Teoman says that he is the head of the family, and therefore it is his fault. He says that their numbers will soon grow. These are good, but who is filming these and editing them together, and why? If it’s Teoman showing us how what a good leader he is, then that’s fine. I just want it acknowledged that Teoman is sending these videos in.

EARLIER THIS WEEK, JINNY AND JOSEPH CONNORS BARGE IN ON SID SCALA WHILE HE IS ABOUT TO GIVE AN INTERVIEW- fine
Jinny vs. Meiko is happening in three weeks. Jinny is confident that she will win.

SHA SAMUELS vs. “FLASH” MORGAN WEBSTER (w/Subculture)- 6.75/10
Samuels won clean. The announcers pushed the idea that Webster could have won if he would have been willing to take the count-out win. They also pushed the idea that he was tough for taking so much punishment, which has apparently happened a lot with him recently when he has picked fights against larger opponents, but if you keep actively picking fights against people and always lose, that makes you an idiot and a loser, even if you are tough.

THE NINA SAMUELS SHOW- good
She shows up with a camera to bother Xia Brookside about her recent losses. She says that Xia couldn’t even beat “her” and points at a random jobber training in the UK PC. The random jobber and Xia are friends, so they’re happy to wrestle each other. Nina claims there is “drama” going on.

GALLUS AND JORDAN DEVLIN MEET IN SID SCALA’S OFFICE- good
We’re getting Joe Coffey vs. Jordan Devlin again next week, but this time with Gallus barred from ringside.

NXT UK TITLE MATCH: Ilja Dragunov(c) vs. A-Kid- 9/10
Oh my Lord did these two just beat the sh*t out of each other. They beat the sh*t out of each other and got the sh*t beaten out of them, but they were just so determined to win that they never stopped coming, no matter how much pain they had to fight through (yeah, there was some limb-work, too, but holy crap were those strikes vicious). This is what all of those New Japan “look at me! I have fighting spirit!” matches want to be. The fighting spirit in this match felt so much more real, and not like a performance.

An awesome episode of NXT UK, but it’s hard not to be with a main event like that!
