BRM Reviews the 6/17/2022 Rampage

JON MOXLEY vs. DANTE MARTIN- 7/10
William Regal joined the usual commentary team of Excalibur, Chris Jericho, and Taz for this match. When Moxley refused Dante’s handshake, Regal told us that “being part of the Blackpool Combat Club means no sportsmanlike conduct whatsoever.” So they’re heels then, right?
Excalibur read a quote from Zack Sabre Jr. to tease a match between Zack and Bryan Danielson. Every minute that Will Ospreay vs. Ass-face the Clown steals from this match will be a tragedy.
Dante did flips. Moxley won cleanly.

TONY SCHIAVONE INTERVIEWS KEITH LEE & SWERVE STRICKLAND- good
Lee is upset with Strickland. Strickland tried to assuage him with “it was a singles match” and “you would have done the same to me.” Fortunately for Strickland. Will Hobbs and Ricky Starks showed up to challenge them to a match, putting this argument on the back-burner.

HOUSE OF BLACK AND DEATH TRIANGE PROMOS- The House of Black said random things. Death Triangle (especially Pac) did a halfway decent job of building of the Penta vs. Malakai Black match.

RUFFIN IT (Bear Country & Leon Ruff) vs. Gunn Club & Max Castor (w/Billy Gunn & Anthony Bowens)- squash
Taz and Jericho seemed to be under the impression that Leon Ruff’s name was “Ruffin.”

LEXI NAIR INTERVIEWS HOOK- dumb
This dude clearly doesn’t want to talk, so why the hell does AEW keep booking interview time for him?
Both Excalibur’s verbal hype and the graphics referred to this us an interview with “Hookhuasen,” yet when we went to this live interview, only Hook was there, and no one seemed concerned about Danhausen’s absence. Oops. “Detail Guy” Tony Khan strikes again.
Dork-hausen thinks Hook’s singles match is a tag team match because he’s a moron.

AEW TBS TITLE MATCH: Jade Cargill(c) (w/the Baddies) vs. Willow Nightengale- 4.5/10
Stokely Hathaway was on commentary for this match. Jade won.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- bad
The Baddies attacked Willow after the match, just because. Then Athena’s music played, but instead of on the stage, she came through the crowd behind them. This was a spontaneous attack, so she couldn’t possibly have had time to tell the sound technician to play her music, then get all the way around the building… so she must have had this attack from behind planed from the beginning… like a total heel.
Athena took out Kiera Hogan, but then Jade took her out with a big boot. Good. She deserves it. She also deserved to get hit with Jaded, but unfortunately Kris Statlander ran out to make the save.

JAY LETHAL, SONJAY DUTT, & SATNAM SINGH PROMO- Lethal was good, Sonjay was goofy, Singh was good in the one line he was given.

MARK HENRY INTERVIEWS THE PEOPLE IN THE MAIN EVENT- great
Darby said he was going to break Bobby Fish’s leg.

DARBY ALLIN vs. BOBBY FISH- 8/10
Darby went to pose on the turnbuckle, allowing Fish to jump him from behind. This should never have happened in a grudge match like this, and Darby in particular is usually careful about not doing crap like this.
The match was the usual Darby Allin craziness. Darby won with a roll-up.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
Fish attacked Darby, and Kyle O’Reilly came out with a chair. Sting returned via magical teleportation to make the save. Sting hit Kyle in the nuts with his baseball bat. Darby did a Coffin Drop Pillmanizer to Fish, then Sting wrenched Fish’s leg with the bat for good measure.

An good episode of Rampage, mostly on the back of the main event.
