BRM Reviews the 7/22/2022 Rampage (bad)

THE BUTCHER & THE BLADE vs. ADAM PAGE & JOHN SILVER- 6/10
Excalibur claimed that The Butcher & The Blade were “one of the most successful, most destructive tag teams in AEW.” This statement is laughable. Jim Ross wanted to get in on the fun, so he claimed that “Silver has been as hot as anybody in AEW in the past several weeks.”

The Bunny is missing. This has not been commented on by anyone. Is it really that hard for an announcer to tell us that someone who we would expect to see at ringside isn’t there because that person is injured?

Page and Silver won a fine action match.
Fun fact #1: This win means that team of Page and Silver have more televised wins in AEW as a two-person team than Silver does with his regular tag team partner since the start of the promotion, Alex Reynolds.
Fun fact #2. This was Adam Page and John Silvers first win together as a two-man team.

WHEELER YUTA VS. DANIEL GARCIA VIDEO PACKAGE- bad
Apparently at some point YUTA- the babyface- cut a promo bringing up the car accident that nearly killed Daniel Garcia. Now they’re going to have what should be a grudge match… under Pure Rules.
When we got back from this intense video package, all Excalibur could say was that YUTA was “excited” to put the Pure Title on the line. Did he not watch the same video package we did?

CLAUDIO CASTAGNNOLI PROMO- very good hype for his ROH World Title shot tomorrow night.

WARDLOW VIDEO PACKAGE/PROMO- meh
He says that he wanted the TNT Title “because this title was defended by the best, against the best.” Other than Cody (who couldn’t challenge for the world title) what top-level wrestler has even challenged for the TNT Title? Kingston, I guess (back when he wasn’t even signed), and that’s about it. No Adam Page, no CM Punk, no Kenny Omega, no Adam Cole, no Bryan Danielson, no Chris Jericho, no Jon Moxley.
He said he would “beat the sh*t” out of every single locker room in wrestling. He comes off like a heel. He just feels like an arrogant asshole.

DANTE MARTIN vs. LEE MORIARTY (w/Matt Sydal)- 6.75/10
Not only did this match not get the entrances shown (that’s 2/2 in that category), but they relegated the early part of the match to picture-in-picture to show us Moriarty getting beaten by Jonathan Gresham last week which served no purpose in kayfabe.
Outside of kayfabe, it set up for the finish where Moriarty decided to use an underhanded tactic to get the win, just as Gresham did to last week. Unfortunately, said underhanded tactic was him grabbing the ropes for “illegal leverage” in one of those ways where you’re not actually adding any leverage (and, are, in fact, applying less pressure to your opponent because of the way you are grabbing the ropes).
Stokely Hathaway had come out to watch the match, and was pleased with this outcome.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
Sydal was very upset at Moriarty, and challenged him to a match next week. The announcers immediately treated this as if it were official. Stokely offered Moriarty his business card, but Moriarty smirked and ignored him.

ROH WOMEN’S TITLE VIDEO PACKAGE- good

DR. BRITT BAKER, DMD & JAMIE HAYTER (w/Rebel) vs. ASHLEY D’AMBOISE & SKY BLUE- squash
Ross told us that Baker and Hayter have never won a match as a team… and then used that as a reason to say he thought they were going to win this match.

ARI DAIVARI IS COMING SOON- I could be wrong, but this might be AEW’s first actual “coming soon” video.
Look… I like Daivari, but another wrestler is the last thing AEW needs right now.

RAP BATTLE WHERE THE WINNER GETS TO PICK THE STIPULATIONS OF A TAG TEAM MATCH: Max Caster (w/Antony Bowens and a bunch of random geeks) vs. Austin Gunn (w/Gunn Club and a bunch of random geeks)- bad
Someone named “Lil’ Scrappy” will be the judge.
There were some good lines in here, but mostly it was boring. Lil’ Scrappy decided that the Acclaimed won, so Billy Gunn attacked him. Gunn Club beat up the Acclaimed and Billy beat up all of the other geeks.

MARK HENRY INTERVIEWS THE PEOPLE IN THE MAIN EVENT- meh
The thing that stood out to me the most here is how good Satnam Singh has gotten at doing the right things while standing in the background.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS vs. JAY LETHAL (w/Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh)- 6.25.10
Lethal won, then he and his group beat Daniels up afterwards just because.

A bad episode of Rampage.
