Impact Wrestling No Surrender 2021
February 13, 2021
Nashville, TN

Opening Video - Show opened with a nice career retrospective of Tommy Dreamer. He talked about started and all he’s done and given to wrestling. He said he’d be wearing the same boots he wore when he won his first world title. He knows this is likely his last shot, and he is going to try his hardest.

XXXL (Acey Romero & Larry D) & Tenille Dashwood vs. The Decay (Black Taurus, Crazzy Steve & Rosemary) - 6.5/10
Rosemary has been making a lot of enemies as of late. Rosemary and Dashwood have been feuding for a couple of weeks after the latter started bullying Rosemary about being left behind by Taya. In addition, Larry D and Acey Romero blame Rosemary for D being framed for the murder of John E. Bravo. XXXL and Dashwood joined forces as they share a common enemy, and so Rosemary had to recruit his former Decay friend, Crazzy Steve, and the new member of Decay, AAA's Black Taurus.

Good opener with the exception of a spot that saw Dashwood trying to take photos as a matador teasing Taurus. The photo wasn't the issue, but Taurus actually chasing the red t-shirt. Taurus pinned D after a Michinoku Driver.

Eddie Edwards & Matt Cardona vs. Brian Myers & Hernandez - 7/10
Myers and Edwards have been feuding after Myers started calling Edwards a backyard wrestler. Myers recluted Hernandez to take out Edwards, but much to Myer's surprise, it was Matt Cardona of all man that came down and saved Edwards of a 2-on-1 beat down.

Eddie was the babyface in peril and at the end, Myers pinned Cardona with a Lariat after Cardona had fallen on an exposed buckle. The match was good for the time it got, Hernandez and Cardona looked the best I've seen of them as of late.

Matt Hardy/Private Party Promo - Hardy hyped up PP for the match tonight, and threaten to win the titles and never come back to defend it.

Deaner (w/Eric Young & Joe Doering) vs. Jake Something - 6.5/10
Former cousins and tag team partners collide. Cody Deaner turned on Cousin Jake and joined Eric Young and Joe Doering, to become part of Violent By Design. Cousin Jake, now going by Jake Something, had the same invitation, but instead of taking the easy way out, decided to stand him place and start a war against VBD.

This was good, interference and all. Match wasn't a workrate spectacle, but it was a good layout to showoff Something as a singles babyface. He looked like a big powerhouse, with Deaner only managing to get heat after Doering or EY interfered, and constantly having to deal with all three men. Something won with a Blackhole Slam after taking out EY and Doering with a dive.

Post-match - EY and Doering attacked Something and put him though a table.

X Division #1 Contendership Triple Threat Revolver Match
Ace Austin (w/Madman Fulton) vs Chris Bey vs Trey Miguel vs Suicide vs Daivari vs Willie Mack vs Blake Christian vs Josh Alexander - 9/10
Rules of the match are that we will always have a 3-way match, but as soon as someone gets eliminated by pinfall or submission, another man in the gauntlet fills in the spot, and so on until the final three men are left and it becomes sudden death. The winner of the match will become the #1 contender for the X Division Championship, either TJP or Rohit Raju.

Suicide, Trey, and Blake Christian started the match. Suicide was first eliminated by MIguel's Glass Hour submission. Bey entered next and eliminated Christian after a Gringo Killah. Daivari came in next and got eliminated by a surprise Meteora from Miguel after running wild for a bit. Josh Alexander was next, he changed the pace of the match a bit, he started doing more suplexes and strikes, he eliminated Chris Bey with an ankle lock. Next up was Mack, who also ran wild for a bit before being eliminated by Miguel and another surprise Meteora. And finally, it was Ace Austin who came in, at which point, the match became sudden death.

The last three were Trey Miguel, Ace Austin, and Josh Alexander. At this point, given that TJP is the champion and likely to retain, I expected Ace to win and just build Ace vs TJP, and for that matter, I totally expected Sami Callihan to distract Trey Miguel for such loss, but instead, I was pleasantly surprised when Josh Alexander got the win, clean, over Ace Austin.

Awesome match and awesome match dynamic. Triple Threat gauntlets are a fantastic concept and work out perfectly. This match got about 23 minutes altogether, which means that some of the eliminations happened in only a couple of minutes, but they were smart enough to make sure that those rounds were given to guys like Daivari, Suicide, or Mack that are kinda irrelevant.

Impact Knockouts Tag Team Title Texas Tornado Match
Fire 'N Flava (Kiera Hogan & Tasha Steelz) (c) vs. Havok & Nevaeh - 5/10
Fire 'N Flava defeated Havok and Nevaeh at Hard To Kill to win the Knockouts tag team titles. Ever since, Havok and Nevaeh kept coming after Hogan and Steelz, looking for a rematch, which they finally earned after defeating them in singles matches respectively.

This wasn't as great, but better than my low expectations, the rules kinda helped make this match different from the other 10 we've seen between these teams. The strength behind the team of Hogan and Steelz is their heat segments, where they're not exactly the strongest team, but through tag team work, they can bring down someone like Havok and make it credible. This match having tornado rules, it really pushed that limit of credibleness, but the match was so fast paced, short, and somewhat chaotic, that it hid that fact somewhat.

Rich Swann Interview - Good. Gia Miller interviewed Impact World Champion Rich Swann. He talked about being ready for Dreamer and confirmed that Moose is banned from interfering or suffering repercussions. Swann said he had a second gift for Dreamer after tonight, a new set of teeth, because he was gonna knock them down.

Impact X-Division Title Match
TJP (c) vs. Rohit Raju (w/Mahabali Shera) - 9/10
This feud goes a long way back. TJP and Raju have been trading wins and loses, and the X title for that matter. TJP originally came to win the championship from Raju after masking himself as Manik in order to challenge for the title. As a counter, Raju decided to call back his old Desi Hit Squad stablemate Mahabali Shera to come and aid him back to title gold.

This was freaking awesome! Prior to the ring bell, Raju attacked TJP outside the ring, and they brawled for a couple of minutes. I was incredibly annoyed with Hebner in this match, he didn't start the match to get control, nor he did when Raju brought TJP to the ring for a quick pin, and so they just kept brawling instead. Eventually they made it to the ring and the match started. This was the weakest part of the match.

Once in the ring, with such a long history between them now, the story was that they had each other scouted and so the match was all back and forward, reversing and countering each other. As the match went on, Raju couldn't keep TJP down, and thus got frustrated, and so he started to rely on Shera and changed his plan into more submissions; in the other hand, TJP at this point was to hurt to keep down Raju too. As I mentioned, Raju had changed his game to submission, but that was his big mistake, submission is one of TJP's fortes and so TJP was able to do enough damage by countering, until he managed to finally hit the mamba splash, which he had failed twice already, for the win.

Tommy Dreamer interview - Ok. Gia Miller interviewed Tommy Dreamer about the main event. Dreamer was teary eyed, talking about his father taking him to his first wrestling show, and taking his girlfriend to watch Demolition. He knows his body is breaking down and all he wants is to give the fans the best he can. You could legit see Dreamer's tears, but it felt acted.

Jazz, Jordynne Grace & ODB vs. Deonna Purrazzo, Kimber Lee & Susan - 7/10
The story between Grace and Purrazzo goes all the way back to Purrazzo's debut, but as of late, Grace and Jazz happened to cross paths with Purrazzo and Kimber Lee. After Purrazzo turned Su Yung into Susan, thanks to the powers of James Mitchell, ODB made her return to the promotion to back up Grace and Jazz.

Match was ok, it was your quintessential tag match with the heels cutting someone off, working on them, hot tag, and into a chaotic final minute. Babyface in peril was Grace, ODB the hot tag, and at the end, it came down to Jazz and Susan, who she tapped out with an STF for the win. I personally really enjoyed Susan, this gimmick allows her to wrestle more naturally now that she doesn't have to pretend to be an undead bride or a little girl.

Impact World Tag Team Title Three Way Match
The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) (c) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) (w/Matt Hardy) vs. Beer Guns (Chris Sabin & James Storm) - 7.5/10
The Good Brothers were originally scheduled to defend the titles against AEW's Private Party, who won a #1 contendership match with the aid of Jerry Lynn and Tony Khan. When Storm and Sabin had their chance to win the titles last week, Private Party interfered and cost them the match, and thus, in order to avoid more interference, everyone is now involved in the match, making it a 3-way dance.

Ok match, I'm not particularly impressed with Private Party and I find the Good Brothers boring now a days. Match saw both Sabin and Quen be babyfaces in peril, Sabin to Private Party, and Quen to the Good Brothers. At the end things broke down like usual and it came down to Quen and Storm as the legal men, when Private Party finished off Storm, Anderson jumped in for the blind tag and stole the pin to retain the titles.

Impact World Title Match
Rich Swann (c) vs. Tommy Dreamer - 7/10
Tommy Dreamer is celebrating his 50th birthday by challenging for the Impact World Championship, after the champion himself offered him the match as a gift. While it seemed to be just another match for Swann, Dreamer is taking this quite seriously, he knows chances like this don't come often for him. Happy birthday Tommy Dreamer!

Story of the match was that Dreamer is old and broken, but this was likely the last time he’d be getting a shot at world title gold, and so he had an unparalleled determination to win and he’d stop at nothing, even reinjuring Swann in order to do it. Unfortunately for Dreamer, early on in the match, he dislocated his finger, and so if Dreamer was going to go all out on Swann's injuries, then Swann paid him off by going for his injured hand.

We had a couple of near falls at the end, nothing super exciting since there was no way that Dreamer was winning (and I say this after watching Shiozaki vs Mutoh). Dreamer's efforts hit their limit when he hit the Spicolli Driver and the DDT, and it still wasn't enough. After that, Swann hit the Phoenix Splash for the win. The wrestling wasn't amazing, but they told a nice story.

Post-match - Moose, who had properly waited for the match to be over as he said he would, came down and attacked both Swann and Dreamer.

After the show went off the air, we got a vignette for FinJuice, Juice Robinson and David Finlay are coming to Impact.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Ok show by Impact. The two X Division matches were fantastic and worth watching, but the rest of the show was just ok, nothing insulting, but just skippable at worst. Moose vs Swann is still the most interesting stuff going on, but Alexander vs TJP could really become a big thing if they go longer than one match.
