BRM Reviews TNA No Surrender 2011
TNA No Surrender 2011 (9/11/2011)- Orlando, FL
#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH FOR THE X-DIVISION TITLE: Kid Kash vs. Jesse Sorensen- 5.25/10. Good character-work in the ring
TENAY INTERVIEWS HOGAN & ANGLE- Kurt found out about the main event at the 11th hour? See what happens when you spoil sh*t, Kurt? You look like an idiot on TV. Anyway, this segment was bad. It randomly teased dissension that no one gives a damn about.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Bully Ray vs. James Storm- apparently these matches are still working under BFG Series point-scoring rules. I thought it was just a tournament? Hence all that talk about the possibility of Roode facing Storm last during that segment on Impact. So if James Storm wins by pinfall tonight, Bubba will still advance to the finals? If Bubba is up on Storm by nine points, then why doesn’t he just get counted out? Anyway, this did help to give the match a story, and it was cool seeing James Storm do things that we rarely get to see him do. Hated the finish, though. 5.5/10 It doesn’t get good heat on Bubba since Storm’s loss is entirely his own fault.
TNA KNOCKOUTS’ TITLE MATCH: Mickie James(c) vs. Winter (w/Angelina Love)- 5/10. Can we please go two minutes withut Angelina trying to interfere? And this was THE SECOND STRAIGHT PPV WHERE THEY HAVE DONE THIS FINISH! What was the point of Mickie winning the belt back if she was going to lose the belt IN THE SAME EXACT WAY?
GUNNER & BUBBA- they did this well, but no one honestly cares about this angle anymore.
TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Mexican America(c) (w/Sarita & Rosita) vs. Devon & The Pope- 5/10. Tenay completely fails to mention that THE HEELS CHEATED TO WIN and the finish looked weak with only one leg being held down on the outside. Also, you can only have so many dirty finishes or successful cheating attempts before it makes your referees look just plain incompetent.
ANDERSON PROMO- dull
MATT MORGAN vs. SAMOA JOE- 6.5/10. ONE FINISHER? That’s it? Just one finisher puts Joe The Monster down? BOO!
BOBBY ROODE PROMO- Great, but Bobby Roode’s catchphrase doesn’t work well as a babyface. James Storm was great on the mic here, too.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Gunner vs. Bobby Roode- 6.75/10. So Bobby Roode works over Gunner’s arm all match, then gets the win with a head/neck submission? WTF?
AUSTIN ARIES PROMO- love it!
The voice-over guy should not be calling Kendrick “the Wizard of Odd.” He is supposed to be neutral, not poking fun at the babyfaces.
TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH: Brian Kendrick(c) vs. Austin Aries- 7/10. What the hell was that finish? What is this semi-clean weird-ass crap? Just put Aries over 100% clean!
BULLY RAY PROMO- eh.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES FINALS: Bully Ray vs. Bobby Roode- 4/10. An extremely disappointing lack of action, and Bobby Roode won with a normal move. Lame.
TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Kurt Angle(c) vs. Sting vs. Mr. Anderson- 6.5/10.
Why the hell did they need a dirty finish here? Sting can take a clean loss. He already has a super-hyped match on Impact, and we all knew that he wasn’t going to win because of that. It is Sting vs. Flair, to have Sting look weak going into the match would actually ADD some intrigue to this, since it would make us wonder whether or not Sting really might be on his last leg (kayfabe, of course- non-kayfabe, he hasn’t been able to go for almost two years now), and whtehr Flair might actually win and retire him.
Overall, not a good show from TNA, with only one match at 7/10 or higher, and nothing worth going out of your way to see.
Stupid Announcer Quotes:
1. Taz (about the 225lb weight limit in the X-Division)- “I think that’ll be, like, the exclamation point for the division. It’s like the X-Division is a brand within the brand of Impact Wrestling.” Umm… okay. Can anyone make an actual point out of this rambling?

Nope. It just screams "I don't know what the hell to talkabout, but here's some filler garbage"Big Red Machine wrote: Stupid Announcer Quotes:

I knew No Surrender was yesterday bc I watched iMPACT! :pBig Red Machine wrote:I actually kept thinking that most of the day, too. Shows you which company is more on top of things.Rabid619 wrote:Do you mean Night of Champions?KILLdozer wrote:hmmmm...I thought Summerslam was yesterday...
It does get kinda confusing when the top three promotions all have a PPV within 2 weeks of one another.
II thought No Surrender was okay; esp the BFG series matches. Ray did a great job at maintaining and using his points advantage, Storm fought hard, Gunner fought hard (and I disagree about the finish to Gunner v. Roode; the Crippler Crossface works the arm as well as the head and neck, just like the LaBell Lock. I thought the point of trapping the arm was to stretch the shoulder as you cranked on the neck), and Roode shined like he should have. Angle v. Roode will be good. I agree about the KO's title match; why did Winter even drop the damn belt? They didn't have any major change last night; it's like the last two weeks didn't even matter in this feud. I liked Joe v. Morgan; Joe hasn't been an unbeatable monster for the last four months; just a dangerous guy who's hurting ppl. And at the same time, Morgan was the top guy in the series before he was injured, so it didn't hurt Joe at all. Plus, there's nothing wrong with losing to a finisher; it's what usually happens. the X Division match was perfect. They had to have Aries win by cheating bc they wanna continue to get him over as "win at all costs" Austin Aries; and "the Wizard of Odd" is Kendrick's nickname, not an insult. Just like Sting being called "the Insane Icon."
TOTALLY agree about the main event; typical TNA drop the ball main event. what more can I say

I knew it was last night as well without watching Impact :pbadnewzxl wrote:I knew No Surrender was yesterday bc I watched iMPACT! :p
TNA PPVs aren't a must watch for me anymore, WWE PPVs lately have had the action in the ring AND they do stuff like bring back Kevin Nash to screw over Punk because they don't have drama all the time like TNA does. TNA overbooks which is another reason i dislike the PPVs. Majority of the matches will be dirty finishes, they try to "catch people" off guard by having swerves and just trying to get people mad at the heels for cheating but both happen FAR too often. Only match i had hope for was Aries/Kendrick which delivered. Main Event wasn't that good and nothing else interested me as much as that on this card.

Re: BRM Reviews TNA No Surrender)
honestly (and I feel like we haven't done this in a while) I agree with you; the thing I hate most about TNA is all the swerves. Unpredictability isn't always the best recipe, esp when you bc predictably unpredictable. Every TNA ppv (or even title match) one can expect will end with some manner of shennanigans. That's why I liked the BFG series matches, Sorenson v. Kash, and Morgan v. Joe from last night. The X title match was great too; the finish wasn't bad and didn't come out of nowhere really so it didn't seem ridiculous. The main event is a perfect example of what you're talking about, it seems; there was no reason for a dirty finish at all, esp after Hogan maced Sting....Rabid619 wrote:I knew it was last night as well without watching Impact :pbadnewzxl wrote:I knew No Surrender was yesterday bc I watched iMPACT! :p

Re: BRM Reviews TNA No Surrender)
Did it matter if Brother Ray won last night? My stream kinda sucked so a i missed the opening few minutes and the end. I mean in his match with Storm, were they still going by the point system and because Storm was so far behind Brother Ray that he couldn't have advanced with a win?badnewzxl wrote:honestly (and I feel like we haven't done this in a while) I agree with you; the thing I hate most about TNA is all the swerves. Re: BRM Reviews TNA No Surrender)
Storm had 42 (I think) and Ray had 50; if Storm won by Submission, he'd end up with 52 over Ray's 50. And then, Gunner or Roode could have tied Storm with a pinfall victory, or beat him on points with a Submission victory bc they each had 43.Rabid619 wrote:Did it matter if Brother Ray won last night? The problem was that JB and the commentators were confusing the hell outta the fans: Initially, months ago they said that the final four would compete for the BFG title shot at No Surrender and the winner on points at the end of that night would get the title shot. But more recently, they were speaking of the final four as if it were gonna be a tournament. And last night, all four guys during their promos even spoke as if there would be a final showdown between the winners of the two matches. Storm told Roode he was hoping it would come down to the two of them for the shot (as if it was inevitable that the two winners would face off; otherwise what made him think they'd each score just the right amount of points to tie?). It kinda confused me; I read on wrestlezone a few days ago that the card stated that the two winners would face off in a final. Either wrestlezone got some bad info, TNA sent out some bad info, or they really didn't know how they were gonna handle it until last night....
