I've noticed that in a lot of matches recently, when the story of the match calls for a wrestler to be taking a lot of punches, occasionally you'll see the ref miming to wrestlers to guard. Why is this? When in wrestling has anyone ever guarded during a punch flurry if for no other reason than to be cowardly? I get that it's meant to give refs the same credibility of an MMA or boxing ref, but it so goes against the storytelling methods of wrestling that it just ends up making me mad

Re: 2 Cents: Referees telling wrestlers to put their hands up
there's just so many things that refs do in WWE that I just try to ignore them and so i can't say this one bothers me a lot, it at least plays to the match. Technically, if a wrestler can't keep their guard up, they're 'unable' to fight, so it's kinda like checking for submissions in rest holds

Re: 2 Cents: Referees telling wrestlers to put their hands up
I always took it as the ref selling the offense. Not so much coaching the talent, but more of a mark for the match...

I totally disagree with this. Guys defend like that all the time. It happens more outside of WWE/TNA, but pretty much anyone who does a brawling-heavy style or a shootier style does it at some point every few matches. Defense isn't cowardly. It's logical. It's not like the guy is completely turtling or going into the fetal position.NWK2000 wrote: ↑Jun 27th, '18, 11:28 I've noticed that in a lot of matches recently, when the story of the match calls for a wrestler to be taking a lot of punches, occasionally you'll see the ref miming to wrestlers to guard. I noticed it during the UK specials. Maybe my eyes just wandered to the referees because I didn't know half the wrestlers.Big Red Machine wrote: ↑Jun 27th, '18, 12:06 I totally disagree with this. Guys defend like that all the time.

Yeah...only punks and scared ass bitches defend from punches in wrestling....

When they come, they'll come at what you love.
Re: 2 Cents: Referees telling wrestlers to put their hands up
I know you won't, but you should really checkout some WALTER or Ishii matches, I can't imagine how you wouldn't like Strong Style

Re: 2 Cents: Referees telling wrestlers to put their hands up
I was actually going for some kind of eye rolling thing there btw Lol, that's the closest available.
I've seen pictures of him before, not impressed!

pictures don't do justice to the amount of hurt those men take and dish out.

Re: 2 Cents: Referees telling wrestlers to put their hands up
Well Kanes last name is obviously "Undertaker."
Just like
"The
Undertaker."
First name "The" last name "undertaker."
So now it all makes sense...

I've seen WALTER and he's great. And I do love strong style. Again, this just jumped out at me because I was watching the ref more than the matches and it bothered me lol

Don't watch the refs. They're always doing stupid nonsense things. All the times Carmella cashed in before winning is all you need to know.

Re: 2 Cents: Referees telling wrestlers to put their hands up
i totally get you, there's little things like that that we all have that takes us out of matches

Re: 2 Cents: Referees telling wrestlers to put their hands up
He did that on Sd with Harper and Bryan in the corner lol. That's probably where you saw it.
