Per BTE, Nakazawa oiled up the turnbuckle so that Sydal would get injured because he was mad that he was left out of the battle royale.

I like the thought behind this, but it only works if Sydal was the first person to climb that turnbuckle during the match. If that's true, then good on AEW for turning a negative into a positive. Now they can have a match, and Nakazawa can have an actual direction of being angry about getting left out in favor of someone who hasn't won a single match in AEW.

They seem to have plans for the guy. They put him over in the battle royale a lot more than you would think they would for a random jobber.

You gotta admire that one guy who almost could've died 10 years ago, never really went anywhere that I know of, and is still going!

Wrestling isn't for you man. 🤔
When they come, they'll come at what you love.

He's been around for a while, doing stuff in AEW, had a match in ROH a few years ago, etc.

He was always beefy. He's just short. Cagematch and WIkipedia both have him as 5'10'' and between 200-210 lbs.

Not an exact quote, but Wade Keller noted the following on last week's Fix, which I had not put together before:

"Tribal Chief"= top babyface
Jey Uso= fans

https://411mania.com/wrestling/bret-har ... -screwjob/
In the latest episode of Confessions of the Hitman (via Wrestling Inc), Bret Hart spoke about his Survivor Series 1997 match with Shawn Michaels and said that if it happened as planned, people would talk about it more than the Montreal Screwjob. Here are highlights:

On his Survivor Series match with Shawn Michaels:
“We may not have liked each other that much, but we sure had some great matches together, and we really worked hard to perform together. Like, even the match – The Montreal Screwjob match – before the whole screwjob happened, is a five-star match. We tore an incredible pace. We we were going for 15 minutes before we even got into the ring, and then, we did about 10 minutes in the ring. But we had another 25 minutes of a match that was planned out. If it had ever happened, it could have been one of the greatest matches of all time. And we’d be talking about that more today than the actual Screwjob.”

Hasn't the story always been that the Sharpshooter reversed into a Sharpshooter spot was supposed to be the cue for D-X to run in for the DQ? What's he talking about with this extra 25 minutes that were planned out?

Meltzer wrote:In the sixth quarter, AEW did 676,000 viewers and 352,000 in 18-49 for a Taz interview with Brian Cage and Ricky Starks and the Chris Jericho/MJF dinner and musical comedy routine. While it did almost double NXT, it was still the low point of the show for AEW in total viewers. NXT did 607,000 viewers and 178,000 in 18-49 for the segment with William Regal announcing the new main event, Xia Li vs. Kacy Catanzaro, the Raquel Gonzalez post-match destruction and Cameron Grimes promo.
This was also one of the closest quarters this week between the two shows, and when you consider that AEW had the much-hyped segment between two top stars while NXT featured undercard acts, I think that's all that needs to be said about this Jericho/MJF crap.

Wade Keller looked at the minute-by-minute viewership stats. In the four minutes that Jericho and MJF were singing, AEW lost 125,000 viewers.

From WON/F4W:
Tony Khan spoke to TSN regarding AEW and continuing to run shows during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also talked about a potential relationship with NJPW, saying: With New Japan, it’s been a little more one-sided where we’ve sent people there and I haven’t really had people from New Japan show up on my TV [programming] yet. I’d like to see more of a two-sided relationship there because I’m honestly one of the easiest people to work with in wrestling. We’ve worked with NWA, we’ve worked with AAA and we’ve sent people to New Japan. I think with Harold [Meij] being gone, I don’t know if it’s going to be easier, but I have a feeling it might be.”
Maybe President Harold was the issue, but even before him, I remember feeling that ROH wasn't getting as much out of the NJPW relationship from a talent standpoint compared to who NJPW was getting (Scurll, Bucks, Cole, all on the regular).
