BRM Reviews the 6/16/2011 Impact
OPENING SEGMENT- I absolutely HATE IT whenever someone is allowed to dress the ring up in some goofy manner, and it is even worse when they don’t have the kayfabe authority to make it happen. Both guy’s promos were good, but Gunner’s would have made a lot more sense if the finish at Slammiversary was clean (because even with Gunner’s help “injuring” Sting [which it didn’t seem that he did too well], Anderson still needed Bischoff’s help to win). The rest of the segment was predictable. Once Anderson said that he wanted a drink, everyone knew it would wind up all over Gunner.
BROTHER DEVON vs. HERNANDEZ (w/Mexican America)- short and to the point. Great segment!
BISCHOFF & MR. ANDERSON SEGMENT- AWESOME!
ANGLE & JARRETT- YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!! Did they really just hype up this “FINAL BATLLE” between Angle and Jarrett for PPV… and on THE VERY NEXT SHOW they are having it for free? WTF?!!!
EY & MORGAN BACKSTAGE- Enjoyable and funny, and it put over the importance of both the World Title and the Bound For Glory Series.
THREE WAY MATCH FOR A TNA CONTRACT: Jimmy Rave vs. Kid Kash vs. Austin Aries- 6.5/10. HOLY SH*T! I cannot believe that this only went four and a half minutes! All of these guys deserve contracts.
Tenay keeps insisting that Jimmy Rave is a high-flyer… TAKER is more of a high-flyer than Jimmy Rave
TNA KNOCKOUTS TAG TEAM TITLES: Sarita & Rosita(c) vs. Miss Tessmacher & Velvet Sky- 4.5/10. The champs got no offense in whatsoever.
AFTERMATH- TNA wants to bring in former Knockouts… but only bring back either the old ones (Jackie) or the crappy ones (ODB), rather than the ones that people actually WANT to see (Melissa, Daffney, Roxxi. Also most companies have RINGSIDE SECURITY in order to prevent SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T WORK THERE JUMPING OVER THE GUARDRAIL AND ATTACKING PEOPLE!
HOGAN & STING SEGMENT- Great… but Sting should have been wearing his “I’m INSANE!” facepaint from Slammiversary. There is also one MAJOR logical hic-up here: Anderson’s first title defense will be more than 30 days after he initially wins the belt.
MORE FIGHTING BETWEEN ODB, JACKIE, AND VELTVET- if they don’t work for TNA, they should have been THROWN OUT OF THE BUILDING, not let loose backstage!
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Samoa Joe vs. ROB VAN DAM- 6.5/10
GUNNER PROMO- LOVE IT!
MR. ANDERSON vs. GUNNER (w/Eric Bischoff)- 6/10. In one night, they have managed to get me 100% behind Gunner. By the end of this match, the thing I wanted more than anything, is for Gunner to dump Bischoff and turn babyface, then take the belt from Anderson!
SCOTT STEINER PROMO- F*CKING HILARIOUS!
BULLY RAY PROMO- AWESOME!
PARKING LOT BRAWL- Utter sh*t. This is pro-wrestling. Things get settled in wrestling rings, not fights in the parking lot. Also, I feel the need to once again raise my above objection: TNA told us that Slammiversary would be the final battle between these two. They told us THAT would be the blow-off. They just spit in the face of everyone who paid for that show.
One thing I will say for it, though, is that this did feel very “real” (which, I’m sure is what Russo wanted… But I don’t care for “real” if it isn’t also “good”).
Overall, Impact wasn’t that bad. Hell, not even Taz and Tenay were that bad. The wrestling wasn’t that good, but it wasn’t horrible, either. There were some logical hic-ups and some bad promoting, but the show itself wasn't bad.
Stupid Announcer Quotes:
1. Tenay- “Remember, there is a new #1 Contender, Kurt Angle, and Anderson also has his first Title Defense July the Fourteenth against Sting”… so wouldn’t that make Sting the #1 contender, not Kurt?
BROTHER DEVON vs. HERNANDEZ (w/Mexican America)- short and to the point. Great segment!

Re: BRM Reviews the 6/16/2011 Impact
I am with you that the Sting segment would have worked so much better with him in full make-up. In fact, I think it should be made illegal for Sting to be seen on camera WITHOUT full make-up

Re: BRM Reviews the 6/16/2011 Impact
i honestly didn't like it, Bischoff pretty much did all the talking, when Ken had to talk again it felt awkward cuz Bischoff had already said everything, and not only that, but agreed with Anderson and given him a match.Big Red Machine wrote: BISCHOFF & MR. ANDERSON SEGMENT- AWESOME!
But at least it made sense how Jarrett was a sore loser and still wanted another go and Angle called him out on it. and it wasn't a real match. this also played a great write off for Jarrett from TNA for a while.Big Red Machine wrote: ANGLE & JARRETT- YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!! while this is true, consider that former wrestlers always get to hang around backstage freely, so they shouldn't have been thrown out AT LEAST until they attacked someone.Big Red Machine wrote: MORE FIGHTING BETWEEN ODB, JACKIE, AND VELTVET- if they don’t work for TNA, they should have been THROWN OUT OF THE BUILDING, not let loose backstage!
Parking Lot brawls have been part of pro-wrestling for a while, it's really no different than a street fight or a falls count anywhere that spills out of the arena. The problem here is that there was no ref (i think) thus making it a simple fight, which was better IMO. I actually liked this fight, it seemed real, I've seen other parking lot brawls and sometimes they tend for the unrealistic like getting inside of cars and stuff, but this fight kept it real and nice.Big Red Machine wrote: PARKING LOT BRAWL- Utter sh*t. I only really saw Tessmacher and Sky Vs. MA and the three way X-division matches.
I must say that Tessmacher is decidedly impressive. It may have been one-sided but it was much better then what I see on WWE AND it has attractive women in it. Definitive proof that I can have the best of both worlds.
The X-Division 3 way, was AWESOME. That match needed time. Lots of it. But in the end I was rewarded with a brainbuster for my efforts so I was happy. Very happy.

When they come, they'll come at what you love.

I meant that they could wrestle. Both companies have beautiful women but its clear that TNA women are a cut above in terms of wrestling.

Re: BRM Reviews the 6/16/2011 Impact
I agree on almost all points except....
1. They said JJ v. Angle @ Slammiversary would be their last MATCH; I don't think a parking lot brawl factors in to that.
2. ODB is GREAT! She's not awesome as far as skill goes, but she's as entertaining in the ring as EY and Anderson (who are both AWESOME when on tv most of the time). I feel you on Jackie, though it's obvious they brought her back a) bc she goes perfectly with ODB and b) she's prolly there to do more than just in ring stuff.
3. I'm surprised you haven't been impressed more by Gunner in the past; I've found him to be more impressive than MOST of the new faces I've seen in wrestling over the last year to year in a half (behind Barrett, Clay, O'Reilly, and Cole; and before Riley, Ciampa, Crimson, and Robbie E). I could def see him turning face, esp if he has a showdown with Ray during this BFG Series, but I hope they kinda build his turn. Either have Immortal try to make him give up a match on purpose or win and give up his shot, or have him refuse their help and they turn on him....

Now that you mention it....it's strange that such a good episode included only about four of the guys we see every week or two...KILLdozer wrote:did anyone else notice it was kinda uneventful? no winter and angelina,no mickie james,,no kaz,no fortune at all really not even beer money,no kendrick, daniels,,mat hardy,,i dont think crimson was there either, neither was abyss,,,is there some kinda flight delay i dont know about?

This was after they jumped Velvet and beat up securityCero2k wrote:while this is true, consider that former wrestlers always get to hang around backstage freely, so they shouldn't have been thrown out AT LEAST until they attacked someone.Big Red Machine wrote: MORE FIGHTING BETWEEN ODB, JACKIE, AND VELTVET- if they don’t work for TNA, they should have been THROWN OUT OF THE BUILDING, not let loose backstage!
If definitely seemed real, but that doesn't make it good. If it were so real, you would think that the company would try to stop it. To make its own stipulation mean something, to not piss off its fans, and to keep Jeff Jarrett (a major star) around.cero2k wrote:Parking Lot brawls have been part of pro-wrestling for a while, it's really no different than a street fight or a falls count anywhere that spills out of the arena. There is also the point of the dishonored stipulation from Slammiversary (you know... the FINAL battle)...
