BRM Reviews the 8/30/2012 Impact
OPENING SEGMENT- Aries' promo was good, but I really didn't like the rest of it. It was completely unnecessary. It didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, most of Hogan' promo was either irrelevant (why is Hulk cutting a promo this week saying that he is back now when we KNEW he would be back last week?), or was just silly, when you match it up against the facts (Sting "ran the show with a firm hand?" Pretty much every show Sting ran involved a bunch of masked men who aren't part of the company assaulting multiple wrestlers!... and you will be okay this time because "Sting has you back?"- he had your back last time, too, and Aces & Eights still beat you down... that's why you had to have surgery in the first place!), and I really don't like the way they do the Aces & Eights promos. These guys shouldn't be talking so often or saying random tough-sounding things. They are much scarier when they don't talk as much. Also, how the hell are they controlling the PandaTron feed? If TNA cameramen are filming this, should they be telling Sting, and Hogan, and security where they are?
EY & ODB STUFF- dumb.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: James Storm vs. Rob Van Dam- 6.5/10
Cool finish
MADISON RAYNE vs. ODB- Entirely pointless squash
EY & ODB SEGMENT- moronic sh*t.
AJ STYLES PROMO- eh.
JUDGES SEGMENT- crap.
HOGAN & STING & KAZ & DANIELS BACKSTAGE- this was stupid. Hogan rambled for a bit. The only positive about this segment was learning that Daniels and I have the same X-Men t-shirt.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe- 6.75/10
Great match, but I was really disappointed in Taz and Tenay for not making a big deal out of AJ actually BREAKING the Coquina Clutch.
KURT ANGLE PROMO- good
DOES CHRIS LOUIE GET A CONTRACT?- no. Which is good. Although Prichard was a bit harsh, basically telling him to quit wrestling.
Anyhow, I once again didn't like this segment. From a completely kayfabe point of view... how was this guy any less impressive than Alex Silva or Sam Shaw? He wasn't. They all lost in about three minutes (although Silva lost to a jobber, whereas the others lost to jobbers to the stars).
Another thing that really pissed me off was the fact that they kept using the word "backstory." Yes, technically it is his backstory, but it wouldn't have been any less correct to use the term "life." Talking about this guy's "backstory" makes him seem like a character. Talking about his "life" makes him seem like a person. Once again, TNA tries to be very worked-shooty here, and it hurts the segment.
The Joey Ryan stiff was okay.
JOSEPH PARK SEGMENT- I like the character, but I'm not exactly sure what investigative skills Joseph Park has, so I'm not sure how he will help.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Hardy- 7/10
Very finisher-tastic, but some of the roll-ups were good. I am dead sure that all BFG Series matches were supposed to have ten minute time limits, though, and this one was longer than ten minutes.
CLOSING SEGMENT- not good. Aces & Eights said that they were going to do thing on "their terms" so naturally they show up when Aries, Hogan, & co. call them out, then agree to start the fight one-on-one, as Aries had wanted. Even while injured, Aries can still beat the "toughest guy" in Aces & Eights, and the other TNA guys seem to have no problem taking Aces & Eights guys out. Once again, an Aces & Eights guy manages to leave Aries laying by sneaking into the ring and hitting him with a foreign object (i.e. the same exact ending as last week).
I really didn't like Hogan's part in all this. All he did was ramble on and tell us things we already know. The one new thing that Hogan said this time was that he wants Ace's & Eights masks.
*cues clip of last week's show, where Hogan knocks out three Aces * Eights guys, then just leaves them laying there with their masks still on.*
Overall, Impact was pretty good in the ring, but bad outside of it.

he did have his back, that doesn't mean they're gonna walk together. Sting was coming back to help hogan when he got attacked, but he got jumped too.Big Red Machine wrote:OPENING SEGMENT- Aries' promo was good, but I really didn't like the rest of it. there is a big difference between those gutcheck matches and this. this was a botch fest, SIlva's and Shaw's were not that bad if i remember correctly. plus they're if far better shape than this dude. as a fan, i really found this dude far less impressive than Silva and ShawBig Red Machine wrote: DOES CHRIS LOUIE GET A CONTRACT?- no. it's like how you said last time with Brook and Madison, one is a trained wrestler, the others aren't, going by the MC thing, they're brawlers, they take hits for breakfast, but a trained fighter should still be able to take them down.Big Red Machine wrote: Even while injured, Aries can still beat the "toughest guy" in Aces & Eights, and the other TNA guys seem to have no problem taking Aces & Eights guys out.

But that is a non-kayfabe point of view. From a kayfabe point of view, he was just as unimpressive as Shaw and Silva (and Hendrix).cero2k wrote:there is a big difference between those gutcheck matches and this. this was a botch fest, SIlva's and Shaw's were not that bad if i remember correctly. plus they're if far better shape than this dude. as a fan, i really found this dude far less impressive than Silva and ShawBig Red Machine wrote: DOES CHRIS LOUIE GET A CONTRACT?- no. but being in shape and performing better moves is not necessarily non-kayfabe, sure they all lost, understandable if you ask me, but this guy not only lost like the rest, he was out of shape, no charisma, sloppy wrestling.Big Red Machine wrote:But that is a non-kayfabe point of view. BECAUSE HE SAID HE WOULD BE BACK AND NOW HE IS TALKING ABOUT BEING BACK! If you left somewheres for a bit of time then returned why wouldnt you talk about being here again, whether people knew you were coming or not are you just supposed to not adress being here again at all? Sorry about the yelling lol.

Because he was already back last week and yet he is talking here as if he just got back. If he was going to cut a promo like this, it should have been last week. What he did here only needlessly took attention away from Aries.KILLdozer wrote:Big Red Machine wrote:OPENING SEGMENT- Aries' promo was good, but I really didn't like the rest of it. Call me crazy, but I was pretty sure that they scrapped the ten minute time limit on the BFG matches.
Re: BRM Reviews the 8/30/2012 Impact
yes they did, the announced it some weeks after the series startedSerujuunin wrote:Call me crazy, but I was pretty sure that they scrapped the ten minute time limit on the BFG matches.

They announced the time limit a few weeks after it stated. I don't think that they ever announced that they were scrapping it.cero2k wrote:yes they did, the announced it some weeks after the series startedSerujuunin wrote:Call me crazy, but I was pretty sure that they scrapped the ten minute time limit on the BFG matches.

This. I'm wondering if they just threw him in so that they could say that (besides Joey Ryan) everybody doesn't necessarily get the contract. If I'm not mistaken, Joey's the only one that hasn't, right?cero2k wrote:but being in shape and performing better moves is not necessarily non-kayfabe, sure they all lost, understandable if you ask me, but this guy not only lost like the rest, he was out of shape, no charisma, sloppy wrestling.Big Red Machine wrote: But that is a non-kayfabe point of view. I mean, this guy was BAD.
We haven't actually seen any of the Gut Checkers outside of Gut Check, have we? ~Maybe~ we have... maybe Al Snow has been behind Aces and 8's all along, using Gut Check to create his army! :-ss

A lot of commentary do make reference. Taz did mentioned that this dude was screwing bad. But I understand What you mean, there shouldn't be bad matches in kayfabe

It's not that there "shouldn't" be bad matches in kayfabe. There can't be.
As for Taz, he said he saw some mistakes, but never pointed out to us what they were (which a good commentator should do)... and if saying what Taz thought the mistakes were would break kayfabe, Taz shouldn't have said anything in the first place.

So what's your opinion on Cole saying that a match is boring or bad. As he did during nxt for instance?
