BRM Reviews ECW One Night Stand 2005

Post by Big Red Machine » Dec 15th, '11, 00:43

WWE presents ECW One Night Stand

Giving Joey Styles the chance to be acknowledged like that was a great moment, and you could tell that Joey appreciated it.

CHRIS JERICHO vs. LANCE STORM (w/Dawn Marie)- 7/10
A good wrestling sequence ending in a standoff was a GREAT way to start the show. Props to Lance & Chris for that. Wrestling isn’t just about ability. Being able to put together a good match is important as well. Yes, the finish was dirty, but it got a pop both for the weapon shot, and for the Impact Players reunion.

THREE WAY DANCE: Tajiri (w/Mikey Whipwreck & the Sinister Minister) vs. Super Crazy vs. Little Guido (w/the FBI)- 6.5/10

REY MYSTERIO JR vs. PSCICOSIS- 6.5/10

SMACKDOWN CRUSADERS PROMOS- Okay promo by Angle. AWESOME promo by JBL!

RVD SHOOT- This was exactly that: a shoot. And it worked. RVD gets gored by Rhino, then Sabu makes the save, leading to…

RHINO vs. SABU- 6.75/10. Short, but VERY good. A clinic in all the different ways you can use a steel chair.

CHRIS BENOIT vs. EDDIE GUERRERO- 6.75/10.

BISCHOFF PROMO- good

MIKE AWESOME vs. MASATO TANAKA- 8.25/10. Tied with Roderick Strong vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima from Supercard Of Honor IV and Raven vs. Rhino from Backlash 2001 for my favorite match ever under 10 minutes.

THE DUDLEY BOYZ vs. TOMMY DREAMER & SANDMAN- 8/10, but PERFECT as a nostalgia match.

BIG BRAWL AT THE END- Eh.

Overall, a great show, and perfect for what it was supposed to be: A nostalgia show and a celebration of ECW.

i'd think you have a bigger gap of rating between the main event and Tanaka/Awesome.

also, not sure if intentional, but you didn't mention Heyman's shoot

That was probably my favorite promo/shoot of the PPV and one of my favorites of all time.

I'm with you, Rabs; one of my absolute fav ppv's EVER!. I'd have given every match except Psicosis v. Rey at least 8/10, but that's just me. I popped HUGE for Eddie v. Beniot, Tanaka v. Awesome, and the Main Event.

I took the main event for what it was. A nostalgia match. I liked a lot of the overbooking. The bWo, Beulah, and Francine got their pops, and I liked the schmoz in the beginning. They got lots of good pops in for both weapons shots and the double figure four spot. It was a great match and a lot of fun.

I watched this on The Network last night. I've been watching A LOT of Network, but this is the first time Benoit and I have crossed paths. It was weird, as I didn't know the card going in and they didn't talk about it through the broadcast, so everything was a surprise. His music hit and... aloud... I said 'Oh SH*T!' Like I said, just weird... like that first time you see an ex in public and she's nice to you... you know deep down she's an awful person and she did terrible things to you... but she's being so cool and she smells good and before you know it you're looking at old pictures on Facebook and remembering the good times... yeah... kinda like that...

I am wondering about Eddie, though. I missed Eddie's glory days, I tuned out when right around his days with Chyna. He didn't look very psyched about being there. Benoit didn't either, that was always his "thing", but it seemed odd for Eddie to ignore the crowd like he was. Was he having an off night, or did Main Event Eddie go through a serious faze?
