Yeah. This and Cole vs. Castle feel like stalling techniques to drag out the Silas vs. Caste feud longer than necessary.

Just read the article they posted on the website and it did a very good job of justifying this match. The problem is with the announcers failing to tell the story- either because of Delirious' failure to communicate it to them or their own failure to impart it to the audience.

it makes sense, but watching this week's ROH, it makes no sense why it shouldn't be Castle vs Young at DBD

My suspicion is the following:
Something will happen tomorrow night in Vegas where Cole will get pinned when he and Bennett team up against War Machine. Cole will somehow lose to Castle at DBD resulting in him being kicked out of the Kingdom either on the iPPV or at the TV tapings the next day. The win would give Castle a MAJOR win and when you combine that with Silas getting his win back against Ferrara, it should (theoretically) make their eventual meeting (either at Field of Honor or in Philly) even bigger.

So basically, the admittedly unsatisfying answer to your question is: "because that's not how the booking works out."

I just keep thinking that Death Before Dishonor is still a big show in ROH when in reality, they've devalued that show so much, to me that's a show where to have Castle vs Young, and not the build up to it

I'm fine with it. Roddy has been built up over the course of the year to the point where him challenging for the title is enough of a draw. Top it off with matches that, while not built up well, should be great like the tag title match, and I think it's fine for an iPPV.

If I had to guess, I'd say the reason it has suffered the last two years is because of Field of Honor, which is BY FAR the biggest building they run so that show takes priority.
Still, I think they did a decently good job with it last year as a weekend. Ciampa vs. Elgin was the biggest match they had and was a big angle for Ciampa, AJ Styles had big matches, Silas got a title shot in his home town and was hot after beating Steen, Pearce made the Decade segments feel important and, in hindsight, it turned out to be a HUGE weekend for Adam Page.
Maybe there will be something that happens at DBD this year that feels big in hindsight.
