BRM Reviews the 8/10/2016 NXT

BOBBY ROODE & WILLIAM REGAL COME OUT OF REGAL’S OFFICE- Roode is excited about something. Also, there will be some sort of contract signing tonight.
BAYLEY-ASUKA CONTRACT SIGNING-
Bayley’s promo felt a lot like a prepared speech, but it worked because preparing some thoughts in advance is the kind of thing I can see Bayley doing. Asuka came off slightly heelish, but that is necessary for the story they are trying to tell. Throughout most of this I got the idea that idea that Bayley wasn’t really anywhere near as confident as the image she was projecting. She almost came across like she was overcompensating by initiating that showdown at the end.
NAILS & RIZIN vs. THE AUTHORS OF PAIN (w/Paul Ellering)- squash
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- The Authors go to beat the jobbers up after the match as well. TM61 comes out to make the save but they get their asses handed to them.
NAKAMURA INTERVIEW- okay
ANDRADE “CIEN” ALMAS vs. ANGELO DAWKINS- 2/10
Today I learned that Angelo Dawkins was still employed by WWE.
Short match. They might as well have just done another squash. It would have made Almas look better.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- good
Bobby Roode shows up. I F*CKING LOVE his entrance music. He buries Almas. They’re going to have a match at Takeover Brooklyn II.
ARIES & REGAL IN REGAL’S OFFICE- entertaining. Also, we’re getting Aries vs. No Way Jose at Takeover Brooklyn II.
BILLIE KAY vs. LIV MORGAN-3.75/10
The fans are chanting for Liv Morgan, proving my theory that New Jersey > Carmen.
CIAMPA & GARGANO STUFF- first we get a recap of their CWC match. Then Regal told them they’re getting a tag title shot in Brooklyn and he sure hopes that the result of their CWC match doesn’t cause any problems between them and cause them to lose. They assured him it wouldn’t. Especially Ciampa.
JOHNNY GARGANO & TOMMASO CIAMPA vs. TUCKER KNIGHT & PATRICK CLARK- 2.5/10
Corey Graves was extremely entertaining on commentary and did a great job of pushing the story as well.
MOJO RAWLEY PROMO- terrible. If you want to know why Mojo Rawley can never be anything more than a bottom-level babyface, this promo should tell you everything you need to do.
SAMOA JOE vs. MOJO RAWLEY- 5.75/10
It was fine for what it was, but I’d hope for something a lot better out of a main event.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Joe locks Mojo in the Coquina Clutch. Nakamura shows up on the ramp, dancing around and being Nakamura… and while he’s doing this, a while legion of security guys ran past him to get between him and Joe. That was hilarious. Joe was the guy who was angry and out of control so security was restraining him… and Nakamura took advantage of this to be such an outstanding dick to Joe. PERFECT Nakamura stuff. Great segment. Joe is going to be SOOOOOOOOO pissed by the time Takeover: Brooklyn II rolls around.
A boring show in the ring, but it had a lot of very good build to Takeover.
