There is more and more talk that a Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg match will be announced imminently for Survivor Series on November 20th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
There had been rumors from inside WWE that a deal for such a match had been completed over the weekend and two WWE sources over the last two days also indicated such a match was either finalized or at least in heavy negotiations. We had reported on Monday night on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe) that serious negotiations were going on for a Lesnar vs. Goldberg match.
Jim Ross on Twitter indicated the same thing, and Ross also had more than one source for the story.
Goldberg will be appearing on ESPN SportsCenter on Wednesday night to promote the video game. During Raw, they teased that the announcement would talk about Goldberg's current situation with WWE.
It would be Goldberg's first match in WWE since his WrestleMania X match with Lesnar more than 12 years ago. Goldberg, 49, remains in great shape and has trained hard in Muay Thai on a regular basis for years.
This would be the third time in a row that a wrestler who 2K Sports first put a deal together with for the video game, ended up following it up with a WWE deal, after Ultimate Warrior and Sting.

Totally has Wrestlemania potential. It would feel wasted at Survivor Series.
Lesnar is in the Royal Rumble, dominating, Maggle Cole can say something like "is there anybody who can stop Lesnar?", minutes later, BAM Goldberg is a surprise rumble entrant. Eliminates Lesnar to set up a Wrestlemania match.

Okay... then who eliminates Goldberg without hurting the Mania match? The only way to do that would be Lesnar coming back... which is what they did in 2004.

Or if want to do it a little bit differently, and have a heel winner of the Rumble, you have the winner eliminate Goldberg after some Heyman or Lesnar distraction..

Still too similar, IMO.
Also, I think they might be a bit afraid of a Mania crowd crapping on Goldberg.

A one off match for Goldberg vs Lesnar would not be crapped on, because it'll different circumstances to the last.
It is still similar.
How do you think they can ensure that Goldberg vs Lesnar isn't just a waste on SS? Because the only other decent thing on SS will be a Raw Vs Smackdown SS match (if they pick decent teams and not just midcarders)

It has to be Survivor Series because it's only to promote the game

TBH, I hadn't considered that they would do a Raw vs. Smackdown Survivor Series match just because of pointless it would be and how it would expose how wrong this competition storyline (that only exists in the minds of the McMahons, Foley, and Bryan) is. As for this match being "wasted" at Survivor Series- if it is the only "big" match on the card and it draws people to a show they would otherwise skip, then it's not a waste. (Of course, the Network does quite a bit of damage to the PPV profits they would otherwise be getting, and it's the first big show in Toronto in a very long time, do I don't think they'll have trouble drawing in the building, either).

At this point, a Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg match is all but confirmed for WWE Survivor Series on November 20 in Toronto.
There had been rumors from inside WWE that a deal for such a match had been completed over the weekend and two WWE sources over the last two days also indicated such a match was either finalized or at least in heavy negotiations.
We had reported on Monday night on the subscriber-only edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that serious negotiations were going on for a Lesnar vs. Goldberg match. On Twitter, Jim Ross indicated the same with more than one source.
Numerous sources have stated this is the battle plan for the show.
Goldberg will be on ESPN SportsCenter Wednesday night to promote WWE 2K17, and is expected to at least tease the idea of the match. During Raw Monday, they teased that the announcement that Goldberg's current situation with WWE would be addressed.
It would be Goldberg's first WWE match since his WrestleMania XX match with Lesnar more than 12 years ago. Goldberg, 49, remains in great shape and has trained hard in muay thai on a regular basis for years. He was WCW's top attraction and is best remembered from that era.
He did work for one year with WWE in 2003 and early 2004 with both sides wanting out at the end of the contract which left both sides with ill will.
Since making a deal with 2K Sports, Goldberg said that he considers those issues water under the bridge and was open to working with WWE.
This would be the third time in a row that a 2K Sports signee ended up with a WWE deal following Ultimate Warrior and Sting.
