Mustafa Ali Undergoes Name Shortening

WWE loves shortening wrestler’s full names … including the latest subject, Mustafa Ali.
Pro Wrestling Sheet had heard from sources that Mustafa would soon have his name shortened and now his WWE.com profile reflects that — as it simply lists his name as Ali.
Mustafa has also changed his handle on Twitter to reflect the name change.
His WWE.com bio now reads:
A veteran of the cruiserweight wars, Ali brought his years of in-ring experience to Full Sail University in pursuit of the Cruiserweight Classic crown during the Cruiserweight Classic.
For more than a decade, Ali has honed his craft all over the country, squaring off with some of the toughest competition that both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions have to offer. Hailing from Chicago, Ali exudes a quiet confidence that allows his action to speak louder than words.

Calling them by their last name has always been a thing...but why do they make a purpose out of ONLY calling them that? Lol like you actually have to call all the way out of the way to make sure of it.

Even in sports it's always been a thing to use last names...so again...they're just forcibly calling everyone by their last name lol.

It's very different. In a sports team where there's 11 or more players on each side, it was always a better way of distinguishing who was who for commentary purposes when each player may only have seconds with ball for a short time, especially in days gone by when the TV picture was bad and it was mainly available on radio.
In wrestling, it's absolutely not necessary to do this because the characters will be on screen for a substantial period of time.

Also if you follow Ali on Twitter, he's very Muhammad Ali esque in terms of being a very positive spokesperson for human rights and Muslim relations.

yeah, and don't get me wrong, i hate that they changed the name, but between Ali and Mustafa, they went with the right one.
