Extreme Rules Should NOT be in April

Post by Big Red Machine » Apr 12th, '11, 13:40

While watching Raw last night, an important thought struck me: having Extreme Rules right after Mania is terrible booking. I am not going to talk about the issues with having an all gimmick match PPV. Those are well known (I'm not sure how, but TNA always does a good job of making Lockdown feel like it doesn't cheapen the cage match, and making it feel like every match on the card belongs in a cage, but that is the only case I can think of where it doens't cheapen the gimmick matches). Rather I am going to be talking about its positioning. Gimmick matches need that appropriate hype and build. The problem is that April is right after Mania. It is hard to build a feud up to the level of a gimmick match in four weeks, so WWE (as we have seen this year) will continue their feuds from Mania. While this is fine for one or two feuds (one of which should probably main event Extreme Rules due to having the most build), to do it for almost all of them hurts Mania a lot. Mania is the time for change. It is where feuds either start, end, or have some major turning point in them (and most of them should be ending). Doing Extreme Rules well makes this hard, and thus, WWE for some moronic reason, decides to do this and book Mania like any other PPV, but with a few extra weeks of build, and a major focus on Taker's streak. Mania is WRESLTE-FREAKIN-MANIA and it should be booked as such.

I was pointing out that it doesn't matter. The point is that it's the PPV following Mania

I get that and i agree with the fact that having a gimmick PPV following Wrestle Freakin Mania is a horrible idea. I liked it better when Extreme Rules/One Night Stand was in June.

Which was evenly situated (mostly) between Mania and SummerSlam
