It probably doesn't help that I thought the movie was an interesting speculative fiction concept that then took a very blah turn into a generic story about class struggle. I was hoping for something a lot more unique.

Well obviously there can't be wildfires in Canada because the whole country is covered in snow year-round, but that Mexico thing is definitely suspicious.

Those two in Baja California must have escaped from the US. Obviously wildfires are bad, so all we need to do is tell Mexico that if they want to keep our fires out, they need o build some sort of large, impermeable, fire-proof structure along the length of border.
