BRM Reviews the 6/17/2021 NXT UK (bad)

WOLFGANG vs. SAM GRADWELL- 6/10
A solid brawl. I just wish they’d let Gradwell win.

KENNY WILLIAMS PROMO- good

VIDEO PACKAGE ABOUT HOW MUCH EVERYONE LOVES MEIKO SATOMURA- good
Everyone- including NXT heels- put her over huge. Amale complained that Meiko took her title match by taking her spot in the gauntlet (which Amale had been pulled out of after she attacked Xia Brookside backstage).

JOSEPH CONNERS & JINNY, SUBCULTURE, AND PRETTY DEADLY ALL HAVE A RUN-IN BACKSTAGE- Why was the camera there to see this? Even worse, this was totally unnecessary, as all it did was tell us that Pretty Deadly would be watching from ringside, and they could have just come out and done that anyway.

KENNY WILLIAMS vs. DANNY JONES- 4.25/10
This really should have just been a squash for Williams.

ILJA DRAGUNOV, JOE COFFEY, AND RAMPAGE BROWN HAVE A SIT-DOWN TO HYPE UP THEIR MATCH NEXT WEEK- very bad
This was just a bunch of random blabbering about crap.

MARK COFFEY GRABS A CAMERAMAN AND BOTHERS SHA SAMUELS AT THE PC- very bad
Coffey walked over to a man who was just sitting there trying to do the crossword puzzle and began to bother him, including yelling in his ear, and then repeating things he said like a f*cking six-year-old would do. Yes, he was making the point for the camera that he could get Samuels angry and that said anger would cause Samuels to make a mistake, but that doesn’t change the fact that his actions here came across as childish and annoying.

SUPERNOVA SESSIONS WITH SPECIAL GUEST JORDAN DEVLIN- mostly bad
Eventually we got to Devlin cutting a very good promo about how he was the top guy on the brand, but why did we waste all of that time with Dar blabbing in the beginning. Why not just have Devlin cut his promo without the presence of Noam Dar and his silly talk-show?

DAVE MASTIFF INTERVIEW AT THE UK PC- bad
He puts over the guys who were training, who are Jack Starz and Tyler Bate. Bate says that he has been impressed with Starz and wants to offer him a Heritage Cup Championship match. Starz feels like he hasn’t earned it… and he’s right. I can’t remember him ever winning a singles match. Dave Mastiff also thinks that Starz has earned a title shot… but once again, I just don’t understand how anyone could possibly think this when the dude never wins.

ROHAN RAJA IN-SET PROMO- fine

NATHAN FRAZIER vs. ROHAN RAJA- 6.5/10
A good showcase for two up-and-comers, with Frazier picking up the clean win. Teoman’s eye graphic popped up on the Tron after the match. It remains to be seen which of these two he is going after (he was the one who injured Raja the last time we saw Raja).

JORDAN DEVLIN IS ANNOYED BECAUSE A-KID IS STEALING COFFEE FROM HIS LOCKER ROOM- If this really is Devlin’s locker room, then A-Kid is completely in the wrong here.

MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH: Joseph Conners & Jinny vs. Subculture (Dani Luna & “Flash” Morgan Webster) (w/Mark Andrews)- 6.75/10
Babyfaces win clean. Pretty Deadly were on commentary building up a feud with them.

This was a bad show from NXT UK. The wrestling was decent, but lacked a strong main event. The real problem, however, was the series of segments in the middle of the show where the babyfaces came off as at best boring and at worst awful. This was main-roster level screwing up your babyfaces.
