PWG All-Star Weekend 8: Night 2
PWG All Star Weekend 8 Night Two Review:
Brian Cage-Taylor vs Kenny King: **3/4 Fun opener. First off Brian Cage looks freakishly smaller compared to now he looked like he was half as big as he is now. They got a good 10 minutes where they both got to hit there stuff and look good (BTW Chuck Taylor was at ringside and was great as well) and Kenny won with a Royal Flush. Post Match Brian Cage got his nose busted open huge it was bleeding like a faucet.
RockNES Monsters (Johnny Yuma and Johnny Goodtime) vs The Nightmare Violence Connection (Akira Tozawa and Kevin Steen) ***1/2 Good fast paced action where RockNES got to look like they could hang with 1 of the best in PWG history and 1 of my favorite guys in Dragon Gate together. Also admittedly I mark out huge every time a guy hits his finisher on the apron and that's how Steen put Yuma away.
Post Match: Steen says that Tozawa is a great wrestler and since after tonight he'll be going back to Dragon Gate and won't be back to PWG for awhile (he still never returned 4 years later) if Dragon gate doesn't make him a star they're idiots. The Young Bucks then jump Steen and Tozawa just to be dicks and Chris Hero, who was on commentary, makes the save. Then Steen says he's going to murder The Young Bucks for doing that and Chris Hero challenges Tozawa to a match later on because he beat Tozawa a few months earlier but at the recent DDT4 Show Tozawa pinned Hero in the Semi Finals. Great this set up the feud for the entire rest of 2011 between Young Bucks and Steen which would end with Steen teaming with Super Dragon to take the belts from the Bucks in a classic Guerrilla Warfare Match at Fear and set up a match that I'm pretty sure will be awesome between Hero and Tozawa
Willie Mack vs Ricochet: ***1/4 This was good but not very long it was only about 10 minutes but I still have go say this was awesome for 1 simple reason WILLIE MACK DID A F***ING STANDING SHOOTING STAR PRESS!!!!!
Pre Match promo: The Cutler Brothers are upset the fans wanted them to get chopped in there match with Strong and Aries last night and are now scarred badly and call the fans a bunch of mother f-ers then say they'll be even bigger than The Mega Powers
The Dynasty (Scorpio Sky and Joey Ryan) vs The Cutler Brothers( Dustin and Brandon Cutler): **1/2 Not a great match I've never been a big Cutler Brothers fan so I was not into this
El Generico vs Eddie Edwards: ***3/4 Kevin Steen had a great line about how he hoped Eddie would chop Generico and kill him and then Steen might masturbate to it. I LOVE STEEN ON PWG COMMENTARY! The match was as you'd expect very fast paced with Eddie's Strong Style mixed with high flying style and Generico's Lucha Style. Plus Generico hit a Michinoku Driver on the apron so like the NVC vs RockNES Monsters match extra points from me
PWG World Tag Team Title Match Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) vs Generation Next (Austin Aries and Roderick Strong):**** This was your usual Young Bucks match fast paced with lots of dives and crazy moves. I enjoyed the early part of the match where The Bucks and Generation Next fought into the mens room and Joey Ryan said he was going to go into the WOMEN'S room to check out what's going on. The Young Bucks win with a crucifix and Roddy tries the Firemans Carry Gutbuster leaving the possibility of a rematch down the line (which like Tozawa coming back would not happen)
Akira Tozawa vs Chris Hero: ****1/4 This was a great match. The story was early on Tozawa did a dive to the outside but got caught with an elbow to the head from Hero and got knocked out of the air, Hero then proceeded to attack Tozawa's head the rest of the match but Tozawa reached down and came back to win. Simple story that they told extremely well I love matches like that.
Post Match: Tozawa thanks the fans for accepting him like they have over his year long stint in PWG.
PWG World Title Match Claudio Castagnoli vs Low Ki: ***3/4 Great match with a story of Claudio's European Uppercuts vs Low Ki's kicks. I really liked the 1 spot where Claudio tried the popup European but Low Ki Double Stomped Claudio coming down. Claudio was a great PWG Champion and matches like this and his matches with Hero are proof of that.
Overall Rating: 8/10 Great Show (like most PWG Shows I have) everything on this DVD (except the Cutler Brothers vs Dynasty) either has something that was so awesome you need to see it (Willie Mack doing a Standing Shooting Star Press) or was just awesome. I give this an easy recommendation
