SOCAL VAL PROMO- Good.
She puts over the Premier Athlete Brand, builds up some upcoming title matches, and insults both the fans and ring announcer Rob Naylor.
GARY JAY vs. Caleb Konley (w/the Premier Athlete Brand)- 6/10
RICH SWANN PROMO- he wants a match with Trent Barreta, so we get…
RICH SWANN vs. TRENT BARRETA (w/ the Premier Athlete Brand)- 7/10
Those wings on the side of Swann’s tights make him look like such a dork. Great match, though.
ANDREW EVERETT vs. ANTHONY NESE (w/ the Premier Athlete Brand)- 6.75/10
Nese worked over Everett’s knee and they had a very good match.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Everett goads Konley into putting the FIP World Heavyweight Title on the line against him tomorrow night by asking him if SoCal Val had his balls removed. Konley accepting the match led to some dissension in the stable between Nese and Andrea because Konley was yelling at Val (and I think he also lightly shoved her when she started to yell at him), but Val made peace and they all left together. Val’s facials were fantastic the whole time she was out there, but for this post-match in particular they were solid gold.
CHRIS HERO vs. TREVOR LEE- 7.75/10
Good story build around Lee trying to avoid the move that beat him in their previous match: the Tombstone Piledriver.
CHRIS HERO PROMO- great!
ZACK SABRE JR. vs. RODERICK STRONG- a PERFECT 10/10
Fantastic work on the arm by Sabre Jr. and an awesome killer instinct from both guys. Imagine their PWG match from earlier this year with the intensity of Strong vs. Danielson from ROH Vendetta.
PRE-MATCH SEGMENT- good.
Thatcher cut an okay promo challenging Drew to put the Evolve Title on the line in their match tonight. Drew cut a much better promo accepting that challenge and also putting the DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate Title on the line, further cementing my belief that for all functional purposes, DGUSA is dead.
SINGLES MATCH FOR THE EVOLVE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE AND THE DGUSA OPEN THE FREEDOM GATE TITLE: Drew Galloway(c)(c) vs. Timothy Thatcher- 7.5/10
Good work on the arm by both guys. I assume that the foot on the ropes deal will be used to set up a rematch and possibly lead to Drew turning heel (he was showing some signs of it here like hiding under the ring to set up an ambush and flipping off the referee.
Based on Lenny Leonard’s comments about â€"hot-shotting†I have the feeling that this was all supposed to happen at next year’s Mania weekend show(s) in Dallas but Gabe decided to move the timetable up.
A GREAT show form Evolve, including a big moment and a must-see Strong vs. Sabre Jr. match.
