NJPW G1 Climax 25: Day 13 (8/8/2015)- Yokohama, Japan

KUSHIDA, MASCARA DORADA, YUJI NAGATA, & DAVID FINLAY JR. vs. RYUSUKE TAGUCHI, YOHEI KOMATSU, SATOSHI KOJIMA, & JUSHIN â€"THUNDER” LIGER- 4.25/10
I added an extra .25 for the spot where Finlay countered Taguchi’s butt-butt with an atomic drop. That made me laugh my ass off. I was also quite impressed by Taguchi’s flying butt-butt, which managed to look A LOT more vicious that it sounds.

JAY WHITE & MICHAEL ELGIN vs. BULLET CLUB (Karl Anderson & Cody Hall)- 5.75/10
Cody asked Jay White â€"are you okay?” loud enough for the mic to pick it up with no trouble. I think I had less trouble hearing that than I did hearing Elgin and Anderson’s smack talk at the beginning. But it certainly wasn’t louder than Elgin’s smack-talk to Cody during that sharpshooter spot. That might be one of the best-timed â€"YOU AIN’T SHIT!”s in wrestling history. The match was very fun.

HIROOKI GOTO, TOMOAKI HONMA, & CAPTAIN NEW JAPAN vs. CHAOS (Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI, & Shinsuke Nakamura)- 4/10
Nakamura managed to fall on his back while taking a facebuster. That was bad. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we had Ishii’s great selling of the Goto Sleep. You know something is wrong when I’m complementing Ishii’s selling and burying Nakamura’s.
The match was okay. I totally marked out for Captain New Japan’s chokeslam attempt.

CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada & Gedo) vs. BULLET CLUB (Tama Tonga & Yujiro Takahashi)- 5/10
Formulaic stuff, but decent.

G1 CLIMAX 25 BLOCK A MATCH: Bad Luck Fale vs Kota Ibushi- 4.5/10
A surprisingly short match with a very good finish.

G1 CLIMAX 25 BLOCK A MATCH: Toru Yano vs. Tetsuya Naito- 2/10
Same old Yano stuff. Also, why was there no DQ for Naito throwing the ref around?

G1 CLIMAX 25 BLOCK A MATCH: Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. AJ Styles- 7/10

G1 CLIMAX 25 BLOCK A MATCH: Togi Makabe vs. Doc Gallows- 3.5/10
Gallows’ Twitter handle is still @impactDOC. I guess he just never got around to changing it.
There was no DQ for Gallows’ copious use of weapons, which did not help an already boring match.

G1 CLIMAX 25 BLOCK A MATCH: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Katsuyori Shibata- 8.5/10
I’m really not a fan of this spot where guys will get hit by the High Fly Flow, then Tanahashi will go for another one but the other guy will get his knees up and then spring up on offense. This is supposed to be a move that no one kicks out of. That’s because it hurts you so bad that it puts you down, not because there is some sort of magic associated with pinning someone’s shoulders to the match after you hit it!
That being said, I loved the rest of the match, including that awesome Bret-Austin-inspired finish.

A disappointing show, but with an awesome main event that totally saves it from being terrible.
