BIFF BUSICK vs. TRACY WILLIAMS (w/Drew Gulak & Gulak’s students)- 7/10
A very Evolve opener. And that’s a good thing.
After the match, Rich Swann challenged Drew Gulak to a match in the form of a poem. It was awesome.
RICH SWANN vs. DREW GULAK (w/Tracy Williams & Gulak’s students)- 6.5/10
Another very good match with a very cool finish. This is shaping up to be one of those shows that really highlights how different the Evolve style is.
After the match, Gulak cut a really lame promo on Gargano. Gargano responded that he’d have the match anytime. It looked like we might get a match now but we didn’t. Gargano then cut a promo to hype up his match with Ethan Page later.
JOHNNY GARGANO & TIMOTHY THATCHER SEGMENT- Thatcher retired the DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate Title and gave it to Gulak a la Dragon and Nigel with the Pure Title at ROH Epic Encounter II. So now we have no more titles with the DGUSA name, no more shows being run with the DGUSA name, and Thatcher taking a shot at CIMA… I’d say everyone’s suspicions have just been confirmed and Dragon Gate has pulled the plug on this DGUSA experiment so it will just be Evolve from now on.
MIKE BAILEY vs. CHRIS HERO- 7.5/10
TRENT BARRETA vs. REY HORUS- no rating.
SoCal Val and the Premiere Athlete Brand came out, Val and Trent exchanged promos that quite frankly weren’t very good, and it all resulted in Barreta suggesting they have a tag team match instead. The Premiere Athlete Brand claimed they didn’t want one. Trent insinuated that Val wears the pants in her relationship with Kaleb Conley, which angered Kaleb, so we got our match anyway (this is the second or third time we’ve seen this happen recently, so is this obviously something to keep an eye on).
TRENT BARRETA & REY HORUS vs. THE PREMIERE ATHLETE BRAND (w/SoCal Val)- 7.5/10
Heels get the heat on Rey Horus. Trent started to shout some encouragement to his partner, so SoCal Val, in the most disgusted tone of voice you can imagine, says â€"shut up, Trent!†It was SO fantastic.
ANYTHING GOES MATCH: Johnny Gargano vs. Ethan Page- 8.5/10
An awesome, crazy and very creative brawl that ended in basically the exact same spot that the Steen vs. Generico Last Man Standing match from ROH Showdown in the Sun: Day 1, with Rich Swann playing the role of Jimmy Jacobs and turning heel. Finish aside, you should definitely go out of your way to watch this just for the creativity they showed.
RICH SWANN EXPLAINS HIS TURN- good stuff. Page revealed that Swann is the mystery opponent he set up for Gargano tomorrow night.
EVOLVE TITLE MATCH: Timothy Thatcher(c) vs. Zach Sabre Jr.- 9/10
