TNA Lockdown 2008 (4/13/2008)- Lowell, MA

DON WEST & JEREMY BORASH ASK FANS WHO THEY THINK WILL WIN THE MAIN EVENT- this did a GREAT job of showing of the tremendous atmosphere this show had.

X-SCAPE MATCH FOR THE TNA X-DIVISION TITLE: â€"Black Machismo” Jay Lethal(c) vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Curry Man vs. Shark Boy vs. Johnny Devine vs. Consequences Creed- 6.25/10
The beginning of the match was dominated by Lethal and his best buddy Sonjay teaming up and beating up everyone else. Then Lethal ate a finisher and Sonjay broke up the pin, only to be rolled up himself and eliminated immediately afterwards. The last two were Lethal and Devine and Sonjay helped prevent Devine from escaping after Devine had tied Lethal’s arm to the rope. Sonjay then got Jay some sort of knife to cut himself free just in time to do the Aries-Cabana finish with Lethal diving out the door and just managing to touch the floor before Devine dropped down over the top of the cage. A fun opener, but with some subtle but important stuff with Sonjay saving the title for Lethal multiple times, only to be eliminated himself.
After all of these years, Don West has still not learned that Moonsaults are the ones where go you backwards, not forwards.

JB INTERVIEWS FRANK TRIGG- JB wants to know who Frank thinks will win the main event. I want to why this supposedly professional cameraman CAN’T KEEP THE F*CKING CAMERA STRAIGHT! This must be a choice by the cameraman, because it’s not that the camera is shaky. It just keeps slowly tilting from side to side. It’s SOOOO annoying.

#1 CONTENDERSHIP QUEEN OF THE CAGE MATCH: Christy Hemme vs. Salinas vs. Jacqueline vs. Roxxi Laveaux vs. Traci Brooks vs. Angelina Love vs. Velvet Sky vs. Rhaka Khan- 4.25/10
The way this match worked was that everyone started on the outside and had to fight to fight their way into the cage. The first two in would have a singles match, and the winner of that would win the whole thing. We went maybe a minute at most before Angelina and Roxxi made it in, and wouldn’t you know it, Roxxi has recently been looking for revenge against Angelina for some heelish thing The Beautiful People did to her… which just begs the question: Why not just book Angelina vs. Roxxi in a steel cage instead of going through all of this rigmarole with six other women making their entrances and brawling around?
Mike Tenay said that the beauty of Six of Steel is that you do you don’t have to worry about outside interference. This is just the second match of the night… and the first one had outside interference.

LAUREN INTERVIEWS SAMOA JOE- GREAT!

SIX SIDES OF STEEL MATCH: Kip James vs. B.G. James- 4.75/10
The video package for this was totally awesome aside from that part where Kip told us he would turn into a tiger, and then they showed us that he was standing near some caged tigers.
The match was short, but fine for the time it got and they had a good angle to keep the feud going.

JB INTERVIEWS KURT ANGLE- good

CUFFED IN THE CAGE MATCH: LAX vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Scott Steiner & Petey Williams vs. Rock N’ Rave Infection vs. Kazarian & Eric Young vs. Black Reign & Rellik- /10
You win this match by handcuffing all of the other teams to the cage. On a related note, did you guys know that â€"Cuffed in the Cage is â€"pointless, stupid gimmick match” spelled backwards?
Black Reign and Rellik jumped EY before the match so he couldn’t compete. Apparently Black Reign is not allowed to bring a weapon into this cage match that doesn’t have any DQs.
On his way down to the ring, Scott Steiner managed to say no less than three words that had to be bleeped… and it’s not even like there was a camera right in his face or anything. The camera was a good distance away. Scott’s just that loud.
EY came out early on and tried to get into the cage, but it was locked. He tried to climb in, but was scared off by the sight of Reign and Rellik, and in Eric’ defense, being involved in a dumb gimmick match with one of the dumbest gimmicks of all time and a fat monochromatic Goldust is a pretty scary thought. Eric slinked off to the back in fear and shame.
When it was down to just two teams (including the scary monsters, of course), SUPER ERIC made his appearance and eventually won. While the match stunk (it was yet another example of pointless, stupid gimmick that did nothing but clutter up the ring with unnecessary bodies), I will give them a lot of credit for somehow coming up with a way to have an absolutely AMAZING false finish in this match. You read that right. A false finish in a match where the objective was to handcuff your opponents to the cage.

LAUREN INTERVIEWS SAMOA JOE’S FATHER- awesome promo by Joe’s father, and I had forgotten that Lauren actually looked hot and perky before she stopped giving a sh*t.

SIX SIDES OF STEEL MATCH: Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed vs. Gail Kim & ODB- 6.75/10
Gail wants Raisha… and surprisingly, the heels oblige. They locked up and wrestled and only then did it occur to me that this is GAIL KIM VS. CHEERLEADER FREAKIN’ MELISSA. They had a good match that built very well.

JB INTERVIEWS KAREN ANGLE- decent

MIXED TAG TEAM SIX SIDES OF STEEL MATCH: Booker T & Sharmell vs. Robert Roode & Peyton Banks- 6.25/10
The guys had a decent match, then the ladies got involved for a nice finish.

LAUREN INTERVIEWS JOE’S TRAINER, MARCUS DAVIS- okay

LETHAL LOCKDOWN MATCH: Team Cage (Christian Cage, Sting, Rhino, Kevin Nash & Matt Morgan) vs. Team Tomko (Tomko, James Storm, AJ Styles, & Team 3-D) (w/Jacqueline)- 9/10
THIS is everything Lethal Lockdown is supposed to be! Usually these matches don’t get really good until the weapons come in to play, but this was great from the very first spot and just kept getting better and better!

JOE-ANGLE VIDEO PACKAGE- good, aside from the part where Joe claimed to have been in TNA â€"since day one.” He debuted at a show called â€"Slammiversary,” which, BY DEFINITION cannot have been â€"day one.”

SIX SIDES OF STEEL TITLE VS. CAREER MATCH FOR THE TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Kurt Angle(c) vs. Samoa Joe(career)- 9.5/10
An awesome hybrid of an MMA fight and pro wrestling match with tons of emotion behind it. This is one of those matches that you can’t really call yourself a TNA fan if you haven’t seen.

A GREAT show from TNA. While the undercard was pretty weak compared to what I expect from a PPV, it was certainly fun, and the one-two punch at the top of the card is one of the best in TNA’s history.

BONUS MATCH: The Return Match
TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH (from 4/24/208): Samoa Joe(c) vs. Kurt Angle- 8/10
For some reason, Kurt appears to be wrestling in his sneakers. That didn’t stop this match from being awesome.
