EP 5: Boyle Heights Street Fight

So now that LU season 1 is officially over, my life is meaningless, so in order to stay alive, i'm going to start re-watching LU from the beginning, evaluating subtle hints, things that were never payed off, build up that I missed. etc. I don't have to say, but I'll be spoiling a lot of future shows in case you haven't seen them. I won't rate matches with numbers, but I'll try to find a word that describes my feeling for the match.

We start at Darios's office, shot of the controversial red bull. Konnan is pretty much threatening Cueto because of the Crew's attack on Puma last week. Cueto says that the Crew responds to Ryck and so they sign a match between Ryck and Puma in a Boyle Heights Street Fight.

Mil Muertes w/Catrina vs Drago - GOOD
Drago had some offense on Muertes, but Muertes quickly got the upper hand and controlled most of the match. Striker said that this was Muerte's biggest challenge and I must remind him he DID debut against Blue Demon Jr. King Cuerno has started stalking Drago, you would imagine that seeing Drago defeated by another man and licked by Catrina would be enough for him to not want that prey anymore.

Johnny Mundo Origin Story - Good

Cueto and Mil Muertes Segment - Muertes and Catrina knows about Matanza and the key. I wonder if Muertes is trying to be careful about him or wants to see him released.

Son of Havoc w/Ivelisse vs Mascarita Sagrada - GOOD
I hate to see Havoc lose to Mascarita, but knowing it's all build up towards the Trios titles, it makes it all better. Ivelisse mocking Mascarita was awesome. Things we learn during this match is that Striker watches midget porn.
Striker: What does that tell you about Son of Havoc, that he's willing to hurt a small person, that he's willing to hurt a woman...
Vampiro: ...That he's awesome.

Black Lotus made his first appearance during this match, stalking the match, which in hindsight, makes no sense to stalk this match and to be in the open so easily.

Sexy Star vs Chavo Guerrero Jr - DUD
Vampiro says that he heard from Demon's family that he is mad and is coming sooner or later. Striker says that since the Guerrero's are from El Paso, they can't claim a real Mexican heritage, i'm not going to disagree since that's what I think about Rey Mysterio. After Chavo humiliates Sexy in the ring, Sexy jumps for a chair and since the ref is trying to stop her, she DQs herself by low-blowing the ref. As she is about to hit Chavo, Pentagon Jr attacks Sexy, but Fenix comes to help and they get rid of the rudos.

Boyle Heights Street Fight
Prince Puma vs Big Ryck w/The Crew - GREAT!
A great babyface overcoming odds match, not only because of the David vs Goliath situation, but the Crew's legal interference. Most of the weapon use was good. Mundo did his first big parkour move jumping from Dario's office to the ring making the save on Puma, until he accidentally hits him with a chair and then the rudos put Puma through a table for the win. Second week in a row that the bad guys are on top. Cortez bled during the match.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Good show to build up everything we've had up until this show, both big feuds have been escalated in this show, and the build up to guys like Muertes, Drago, Son of Havoc, and King Cuerno continues steady.
