EP 7: The Top of the Ladder
So now that LU season 1 is officially over, my life is meaningless, so in order to stay alive, i'm going to start re-watching LU from the beginning, evaluating subtle hints, things that were never payed off, build up that I missed. etc. I don't have to say, but I'll be spoiling a lot of future shows in case you haven't seen them. I won't rate matches with numbers, but I'll try to find a word that describes my feeling for the match.
Danny Trejo in the house and Vampiro is wearing a T-shirt i used to own.
King Cuerno vs Super Fly - Good
Good match, but nothing special. I've never been a big fan of Super Fly, this was mostly to continue the Drago v Cuerno feud.
Striker Trivia: Super Fly defeated Super Calo in a mask vs mask match
Pentagon Jr Origin Story - Awesome, we see the first broken arms, he broke them in his Master's temple, so I wonder if those were part of the sacrifices, if not, the fact that this happens in his training is a good indication as to why the master would appreciate broken arms as sacrifice.
Chavo Guerrero w/Pentagon Jr vs Fenix w/Sexy Star - Good+
Last week I was really hoping for this match, but i guess it was a bit underwhelming to my high expectations, because i know both guys are better than this. Surprised that Sexy and Pentagon were not more involved.
Post-Match: Sexy Star cuts a small promo on Chavo telling him it's not over.
They Call Him Cage *points finger Vignette - AWESOME!!!
$100,000 Ladder Match
Prince Puma vs Johnny Mundo vs Big Ryck - AWESOME!
Just an awesome main event ladder match, with many many innovative spots, even in 2014. At one point, as expected, The Crew came out, and while trying to take the briefcase, Cisco couldn't reach it, Striker called him a 'lil Cholo', which is his indie name. Those tables are waay to close to Danny Trejo and his crew, i'd be scared to hurt that man. Striker with the shots to Cena, Jericho, and whoever has a lot of tweeter followers, he also keeps saying that if you think you have what it takes, to come to the Temple, if he only knew that means Marty Martinez is listening. This match had the debut of Bael, who debuted with a Pentagon Jr mask for some reason and who Striker kinda recognized, but didn't say his name.
Post-Match: Dario Cueto comes out with hopes that Mundo and him will now work together and hoping that Mundo lives up to his honor and returns the Key. Dario held up to his end of the deal, but Mundo is a dick and sucker punches Cueto. Not cool dude, not cool. Cueto sold that punch like a ring veteran.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Even tough we already had our big 3-way with Fenix/Pentagon/Drago, and we've already had the Boyle Heights Street Fight, this was the first 'big match' show of LU that we will later start to get more of during the season, this was the 'PPV' show for the promotion. We've got some good hints on some of what Pentagon and Cage will be about during the season.
