WWF Summer Slam 1997 (8/3/1997)- East Rutherford, NJ
OPENING VIDEO PACKAGE- AMAZING!
STEEL CAGE MATCH: Mankind vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley (w/Chyna)- 8/10. Great opener. I always thought that the old cages were a lot lamer than the new ones… until I saw (and heard) the way that Foley hit the cage. Great stuff here from both guys, and AWESOME character work from Foley after the match. His transitions between personalities were AMAZING!
BRIAN PILLMAN vs. GOLDUST (w/Marlena)- 5.75/10. Good match with a hot crowd.
THE GODWINNS vs. THE LEGION OF DOOM- 5/10.
WWE EUROPEAN TITLE MATCH: The British Bulldog(c) vs. Ken Shamrock- No Rating, good segment. This first introduced us to the fact that Shamrock could lose his cool and just go insane, going as far as trying to injure opponents and assault referees.
SHAWN MICHAELS PROMO- Good stuff.
FACTION WARFARE VIDEO PACKAGE- very good
THE DISCIPLES OF APOCALYPSE (Crush, Chainz, Skull, & 8-Ball) vs. LOS BARICUAS (Savio Vega, Miguel Perez, Jesus Castillo, & Jose Estrada Jr.)- 5/10. The aftermath was predictable but good. Interesting way to break up a schmoz.
WWE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH: Owen Hart(c) vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin- 7.25/10
WWE TITLE MATCH WITH SHAWN MICHAELS AS THE SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE: Undertaker(c) vs. Bret Hart- 8.5/10. I LOVED the finish!
Overall, this was an okay show, that was saved by an awesome opener and an awesome main event.
