NJPW New Beginning in Niigata 2016 (2/14/2016)- Niigata, Japan
JUSHIN â€"THUNDER†LIGER, TIGER MASK IV, & CAPTAIN NEW JAPAN vs. BULLET CLUB (Cody Hall & the Young Bucks)- 4.25/10
KAZUSHI SAKURABA & GEDO vs. reDRagon- 5.75/10
OMG GIVE ME MORE O’REILLY VS. SAKURABA RIGHT NOW!
MATT SYDAL, RICOCHET, HIROYOSHI TENZAN, & SATOSHI KOJIMA vs. YUJI NAGATA, MANABU NAKANISHI, RYUSUKE TAGUCHI, & DAVID FINLAY JR.- 4.5/10
This was your standard ten-minute match whose only purpose was to get everyone on the card. Taguchi did the usual butt-stuff to Sydal and Ricochet. I’m quite happy that I got to type that. Young Mr. Finlay looked quite impressive as well.
MICHAEL ELGIN & JAY WHITE vs. LOS INGOBERNABLES (Tetsuya Naito & EVIL)- 6.25/10
Jay White is going to be a big deal on the US indy scene in five years (or possibly less).
NEVER OPENWEIGHT SIX MAN TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale, Tama Tonga, & Yujiro Takahashi)(c) vs. Toru Yano & The Briscoes- 3/10
With his black tank top and camouflage pants, Bad Luck Fale looks like a gigantic Devon Dudley.
We got the same sh*t as always with Yano. They switched the titles right back to the babyfaces after putting them on Bullet Club just a few days ago. These belts are completely worthless.
HIROOKI GOTO, KATSUYORI SHIBATA, & JUICE ROBINSON vs. CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI, & Kazuchika Okada) (w/Gedo)- 7/10
Goto, Shibata, and… Juice Robinson:
One of these things is not like the others.
One of these things just doesn’t belong.
Seriously, though, this was a really fun match.
IWGP JR. HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: KUSHIDA(c) vs. BUSHI (Los Ingobernables)- 7.25/10
There was a LOT of overbooking in here. I’m usually fine with that sort of thing but between this and the main event, it was too much, too close together.
IWGP HEAVYWEIGHT TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma(c) vs. Bullet Club (Doc Gallows & Karl â€"Machine Gun†Anderson) (w/Bullet Club)- 7.5/10
SINGLES MATCH FOR THE VACANT IWGP INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kenny Omega (w/Bullet Club)- 8.5/10
Tanahashi was being restrained in the ropes by members of Bullet Club right in front of the referee. This was not a DQ. Omega then told the other members of Bullet Club to â€"trust me†and not interfere. He also must have heard me shouting through my computer because I’m also certain he said something to them about â€"smart marks.†Then again, maybe it was about something else because he later used a chair right in front of the referee and there was also no DQ for this.
I’ve got no problem with someone kicking out of the Styles Clash in a big moment, but Tanahashi doing it right after eating an Indy-Taker (plus a double superkick to the head) was too much.
Other than that, they had an awesome match, with Omega’s selling particularly shining. That spot where he only used one leg to do a moonsault off of the second rope while holding the other leg in the air the whole time so he wouldn’t put any pressure on it was CRAZY!
KENNY OMEGA PROMO- good, aside from where it veered off and got silly.
A good show from New Japan, but those NEVER tag titles are SOOOO pointless.
