Lucha Underground S02E03: The Hunt is On

The Hunt is On

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Vampiro has consumed at least eight cups of coffee in the past few hours.

KOBRA MOON vs. BENGALA- 4/10
Vampiro tells us that Kobra Moon is from the very first of the seven ancient Aztec tribes. He keeps emphasizing to us that she brings an �"ancient evil” with her.
They did a lot of basic stuff. I didn’t see anything impressive out of Kobra Moon, and even worse, the Kobra Moon we saw in the ring here seems completely different from the character we were introduced to in last week’s video.

FENIX & CATRINA IN CATRINA’S OFFICE- he vows to destroy King Cuerno, Mi Muertes, and Catrina.

A MILLENIA AGO- we get some backstory for Aero Star. The seven tribes are at war and that’s not good because war is bad. Also, they have to go fight the �"gods.” In a thousand years (i.e. the present day) the gods will take the form of a man. For the meantime, Aero Star will go �"there” to fight the gods.
This was all fine, but I thought that Aero Star looked way too much like an Iron Man rip-off. That lighting up chest thing was not a good idea.

CATRINA & KING CUERNO BACKSTAGE- fine.
She wants him to kill Fenix tonight in a Last Luchador Standing match. There was a bit of tension between them over whether or not King Cuerno could defeat Mil Muertes.

JACK EVANS vs. DRAGO- 5.75/10
Jack wins via roll-up with his feet on the ropes, then grabs the mic from Melissa Santos, gets up on the announcers’ table, and declares himself to not only be the winner, but also �"the dragonslayer.” Great stuff!

TEXANO VIDEO PACKAGE- F*CKING AWESOME!
But I just can’t take the man seriously as a Mexican hero when his name is �"Texano.”

PRINCE PUMA & CATRINA BACKSTAGE- we have confirmation that Konan is dead. Also, it will be Prince Puma vs. Pentagon Jr. next week.

LAST LUCHADOR STANDING MATCH: Fenix vs. King Cuerno- 7.75/10
Very different from most Last X Standing matches you’ll see. Awesome finish, though.

POST-CREDITS BIT- WHAT THE F*CK?!
Lucha Underground just became a cop movie starring Ricky Reyes and Joey Ryan as partners who can’t get along. (Reyes- �"Cortez Castro”- has apparently been undercover the whole time). Captain Vasquez wants them to �"bring down Dario Cueto.”

A good episode of Lucha Underground, though the ending seems a little strange. We’ll have to see where it goes.

STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. Matt Striker- �"Here in Lucha Underground, the gender roles are blurred.”
The �"gender roles” are �"blurred?” So do men sometimes get pregnant on Lucha Underground? They really should make Striker re-record stupid lines like this that just completely lose what he is actually trying to say.
2. Matt Striker cites Kobra Moon’s very standard Lucha maneuvers like a springboard headscissors as evidence that �"the Lucha style is constantly evolving.”
