NJPW G1 Climax 26: Day 15 (8/8/2016)- Yokohama, Japan
DAVID FINLAY JR. vs. KATSUHIKO NAKAJIMA- 4.5/10
I was shocked that this wasn’t just a squash.
CAPTAIN NEW JAPAN & SATOSHI KOJIMA vs. BULLET CLUB (Kenny Omega & Yujiro Takahashi)- 3/10
They get heat on Captain New Japan forever. Kojima gets tagged in and chops Omega a lot. Yujiro hits him with the broom a few times. More heat on Captain New Japan, comeback, and finally a finish that came a lot later than it should have.
LOS INGOBERNABLES DE JAPON (Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, & BUSHI) vs. CHAOS (Toru Yano, Gedo, & YOSHI-HASHI)- 6.5/10
Fun undercard match. Naito kind of went after YOSHI-HASHI’s taped-up arm after the match, but then just stopped before really doing anything.
JUICE ROBINSON, KATSUYORI SHIBATA, MICHAEL ELGIN, RYUSUKE TAGUCHI, & KUSHIDA vs. YUJI NAGATA, TOMOAKI HONMA, MANABU NAKANISHI, TIGER MASK IV, & JUSHIN â€"THUNDER†LIGER- 6/10
BLOCK A MATCH: Naomichi Marufuji vs. Tama Tonga- 6.75/10
This was my pick for the sleeper match of the tournament, but it turned out to be about what you’d expect.
BLOCK A MATCH: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Sanada- 6.75/10
Ishii doing Ishii stuff drags down what probably would have been a 7/10.
BLOCK A MATCH: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan (w/Satoshi Kojima)- 6.75/10
In a perfect microcosm of everything wrong with the booking of this block, Tanahashi- who is coming into this tournament off of a major shoulder injury, hits the High Fly Flow and the defeats the legend with the shoulder submission finisher making his last run in the G1. TananashiWinsLOL, and boy were you a sap for wanting to believe in Tenzan.
BLOCK A MATCH: Bad Luck Fale vs. Kazuchika Okada (w/Gedo)- 7.25/10
Fale works over Okada’s back. Fale got the win here with the Bad Luck Fall.
BLOCK A MATCH: Hirooki Goto vs. Togi Makabe- 7.75/10
One hell of a slugfest.
A very meh show from New Japan (especially for a G1 show), with disappointing booking.
