TNA Turning Point 2010 (11/7/2010)- Orlando, FL

TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH: Jay Lethal(c) vs. Robbie E. (w/Cookie)- 5/10
Taz says "What better place than Orlando, Florida to have two guys from New Jersey fight it out for the X-Division gold?" I realize that Taz's statement was intended to be sarcastic (and kind of failed), but I would just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that this is a company that, only three months ago, completely seriously, had a "Philadelphia Street Fight" in this same building.

MICKIE JAMES vs. TARA- 6/10.
The rating is a combination of the match itself and the brawl afterwards. The crowd was REALLY into this.
JB started to say that this was for the Knockouts Title... even though neither woman involved is a champion.

TEAM 3-D INTERVIEW- very good

TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Motor City Machine Guns(c) vs. Team 3-D- 7.5/10
This was slightly disappointing, as far as a send-off match for Team 3-D, as it really didn't fell too special. Knowing where they wanted to go with this, I wonder why they didn't book the feud to allow for one more match, a Tables Are Legal match (not a Tables match, put a Tables Are Legal match, so as to allow for more than one table spot... after all, it just doesn't feel right to do a send-off match for the Dudleys without them putting one of their opponents through a table at some point) at Final Resolution, and have Devon go through a table so as to give Bubba a reason to turn on him (come to think of it, why did Devon take the pin here?)

As a side note, the number of times the commentators said "ECW" really pissed me off, just because of the big stink they had made at Hardcore Justice, claiming that they weren't even allowed to say ECW, implying that mean old Vince wouldn't let them in an attempt to make Vince look like a bad person... but here they can say it all the time. After watching this, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if I found out that the whole thing about not being allowed to say it at Hardcore Justice had been a flat-out lie.

NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH: Rob Van Dam vs. Tommy Dreamer- No rating.
This match is too hard for me to rate because, at one point about two thirds of the way in, Tommy received a pretty gruesome injury to his wrist, with the bone almost popping through the skin. From that point on, I really had a hard time watching the match because the whole time, my mind is screaming "RUSH THE FINISH! JUST RUSH THE FINISH!" while they are in the ring doing hardcore spots. They looked like cool spots, but I just couldn't enjoy them out of legitimate concern for Tommy's health

FORTUNE PROMO- okay

IF FORTUNE WINS, SOMEONE FROM EV2.0 WILL GET FIRED: EV2.0 (Rhino, Sabu, Raven, Stevie Richards, & Brian Kendrick) vs. Fortune (AJ Styles, Beer Money, Kazarian, & Doug Williams) (w/Ric Flair)- 5/10. I really didn't like them taking Kendrick out of the match the way they did. If the goal of putting him with them was to give him a rub... you have to let him be seen with them at important times!

EV2.0 GOODBYE TO SABU- nice.

POPE PROMO- Apparently, when Pope has been talking about his "congregation," he hasn't been talking about his fans, but rather about a select group of friends of his. As a fan of his (who has assumed that we, his fans, were part of his "congregation") I am pretty pissed off right now.

LUMBERJACK MATCH: Abyss vs. "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero- 5.25/10.
This is one of those cases of a moronic idea being executed as well as possible. All of the logical questions were answered (like why Bischoff would allow a Lumberjack Match where all of the lumberjacks would be biased against his man, and why the lumberjacks didn't attack Abyss when he was on the outside, etc.), and Pope's brother being the first guy to attack him and doing it from behind were all well executed, but the fact that we had never seen these people before made it not as painful as it should have been for the audience (and the fact that we would never see them again made it insignificant in the long run... or even the short run). I think that a better way to set this up would have been to have these guys start appearing in the crowd and establish them as Pope's Congregation- a group of die-hard fans of his, who he had become friends with. Have them in the crowd vocally supporting Pope for a few months (after all, if you are thinking ahead when you are booking as any booker needs to do, you can set this up while Pope was doing whatever it was he was doing before this feud so you don't have to drag this feud on for longer than you planned), maybe have them get ito an altercation with Abyss at ringside on Impact (similar to the way that ROH introduced Homicide's "crew") to set up a logical basis for them being the Lumberjacks... then do this turn, so it hurts more.

STEVIE RICHARDS PROMO- decent. What amused me about this segment, though, was the premise. Christy Hemme was gone to the EV2.0 locker room to try to get a word with the man who has just been fired: Sabu. Sabu doesn't talk. Ever. Seriously... go search for "Sabu Promo" on Youtube... it doesn't come up with a single clip of him talking. Trying to get a word with Sabu is like trying to get a word with 1998 Kane... just entirely futile... and even if, by some miracle, you do manage to get something, it is highly unlikely to be anything more than one or two words.

SAMOA JOE vs. JEFF JARRETT- 6/10

TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Jeff Hardy(c) vs. Matt Morgan- 4.75/10.
This match was actually better than the rating reflects, but I just had to dock point for the UTTERLY MORONIC spot where the referee JUST ASSUMED that Jeff kicked out. WTF? This might be the dumbest thing I have seen in the history of wrestling. A referee just ASSUMES that someone kicked out because he saw his leg go up? Why the hell was he counting the pin if he couldn't see Jeff's shoulders? And speaking of the referee... why is the referee who is refereeing his first match ever refereeing the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH?

Overall, a bad show from TNA with lots of moronic BS going on, culminating in spot I mentioned above in the main event. It is a shame that both the best women's match on PPV in a while and Team 3-D's retirement match were on a show that will likely be remembered for moronic booking BS.

Stupid Announcer quotes:
1. Taz- "Good way to pull a groin or a coccyx." A coccyx is a BONE! You can't pull it!

2. Taz's story about forming the Dudley Boyz broke kayfabe.

3. Tenay says (paraphrasing) that Jeff Jarrett 'is a sell-out for joining Immortal because he has spent years asking everyone in the company for work together for the common good, and that by joining Immortal, Jeff has turned his back on everyone who has supported him over the past eight years.'
Who has Jeff turned his back on? Most of the guys who have been here for a long time (AJ, Beer Money, Kazarian, Abyss) are all in Immortal! Compare that to the guys Immortal is feuding with at the moment: RVD, Ken Anderson, Joe, Pope, Kurt Angle (Morgan doesn't count for these purposes because he was in Immortal and left)... none of those guys are TNA originals. The guy with the longest tenure in that group is Joe, who came in when the company was three years old already, and already a national TV and PPV deal! Most of those guys haven't even been in TNA for a full year at this point! Yes, EV2.0 has Sabu and Rhino, both of whom have major TNA tenure, but they are not currently being portrayed as part of the group sticking up for TNA.
The only person who Jeff has really turned his back on is Dixie Carter, and he explained that away in one of the early Immortal promos: his main motivation for joining up with Hogan and Bischoff was because he was angry at Dixie because he felt that she had taken too much control of his company.

4. Taz (when Jarrett has Joe in a rear naked choke, while using a billy-club)- "that nightstick across the esophagus"- umm... Taz? You esophagus doesn't help you breathe. If you are going to say something like this, say it so that it makes sense. The nightstick was across his windpipe.

5. At the end of the Jarrett vs. Joe match, after all of the shenanigans, Taz says "I never thought we'd see Jeff Jarrett win this match by submission" in a completely normal voice! Not heelish, not humorous, but the same tone he uses when he is analyzing things! This is the sort of crap that this announce team does that really hurts the product. They don't sell angles at all!
