WWF Backlash 2001 (4/29/2001)- Chicago, IL

THE DUDLEY BOYS (Bubba, Devon, & Spike) vs. X-FACTOR (X-Pac, Justin Credible, & Albert)- 5.5/10.
The aftermath was unnecessary, but it got a pop, essentially serving the purpose of an opener.

WWF HARDCORE TITLE MATCH: Rhyno(c) vs. Raven- 7.5/10.
One of my all-time favorite matches. Great spots. I LOVED the use of the shopping cart.

DUTCHESS OF QUEENSBURY RULES MATCH: William Regal vs. Chris Jericho- 5/10.
Fun, but nothing great. I liked the Canadian Rules match in WCW better.

30 MINUTE ULTIMATE SUBMISSION MATCH: Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit- 7/10.
The story worked, but not as well as each guy going after just one body part would have.

LAST MAN STANDING MATCH: Shane McMahon vs. The Big Show- 6.75/10.
I think the overbooking here was necessary. It allowed Shane to look both smart and brave while protecting Big Show.

WWF EUROPEAN TITLE MATCH: Matt Hardy(c) vs. Christian vs. Eddie Guerrero- 6.5/10.
Lots of action packed into such a short match.

TITLES VS. TITLES MATCH: WWF Champion “Stone Cold” Steve Austin & WWF Intercontinental Champion Triple H (w/Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley) vs. WWF World Tag Team Champions The Brothers Of Destruction (Kane & Undertaker)- 8.25/10.
There were some very awkward things here, like Triple H hitting the Pedigree, then tagging Austin in to make the cover. Other than that, the match had a very weird feel to it, mostly because Kane isn’t the sort of guy you usually envision as a babyface in peril. They did tell their story very well though.

Overall, a GREAT show from WWF. Almost every match on the card was good and the main event and the Hardcore Title match particularly shined. This show is a must for anyone who has ever claimed that Kane can’t sell. Also, if you are a fan of hardcore wrestling, you should check out the Rhyno vs. Raven match. It is one of my all-time favorites.
