ROH Unscripted II (2/11/2006)- Lake Grove, NY

COLT CABANA PROMO- GREAT. Cabana’s promo is interrupted by Cabana catching site of someone and asking “what are you doing here?” The mystery person responds (in a very familiar voice). We’ve got to talk. Turn the camera off. Let’s go.

On commentary, Gabe (using his Jimmy Bauer alias) explains to us about all of the cancelled flights due to do the blizzard, leading to an amazing roster of talent not showing up (Low Ki, Homicide, Claudio, Sydal, Shelley [TNA had ordered Strong and Aries to no-show so that they would be 100% certain that they could be at the TNA PPV the next day, but those two chose to stay and the ROH show. As a punishment, Strong was fired and Aries lost his push]). Gabe explains to us that ROH has arragend for a big surprise to make up for the no-shows, and that the fans have been offered a refund if they want one after the first three matches)

ADAM PEARCE vs. MITCH FRANKLIN & PELLE PRIMEAU-Good Squash
This was originally supposed to be Franklin vs. Primeau, but Adam Pearce came out and interrupted the match, leading to a handicap match. I liked this because is sort of kay-fabe justified the “Unscripted” name.

THE SURPRISE IS REVEALED (and doesn’t disappoint)!
Smokes calls out Cabana for the match, and Copa Cabana starts to play… but then perfectly transitions into Miseria Cantare (The Beginning)… and CM PUNK comes out, causing everyone to mark out like little girls at a Justin Bieber concert (little girls like the Justin Bieber, right?) This lead to one of the few chants in wrestling history I doubt will ever happen again- “F*CK THE REFUND!” *clap!* clap!* clap!*clap!*clap!* F*CK THE REFUND!” *clap!* clap!* clap!*clap!*clap!*
Punk cuts a great promo, but is jumped from behind by Adam Pearce. Cabana comes out to make the save. We then an AWESOME segment with Punk telling Cabana that he is worried about him, and this feud with Homicide is changing him.

Once Punk goes backstage, Reefer jumps Cabana from behind, leading to:

COLT CABANA vs. GRIM REFEER (w/Julius Smokes)-5/10

RICKY REYES (w/Julius Smokes) vs. KID MIKAZE- 3.5/10. Over quick, but not really a squash. It did accomplish its goal of making Reyes look dominant, though.

ROH PURE TITLE MATCH: Nigel McGuinness(c) vs. Austin Aries- 7.5/10

RODDY-WHITMER-DRAGON SEGMENT- okay.

Nana coms out and tells Dragon that he has a surprise tonight as well. To replace Alex Shelley, who was originally supposed to get an ROH World Title shot tonight, Nana has brought back the second ever ROH World Champion: XAVIER!

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Bryan Danielson(c) vs. Xavier (w/Prince Nana)- 6.75/10
Dragon wins when Jimmy Rave interferes, causing a DQ. Rave starts to beat Dragon down, but CM Punk comes out to save Dragon from his archenemy. Pearce comes out and attacks Punk, and Pearce and Rave apply a beatdown, setting up the main event.
Someone managed to nail Nana in the face with toilet paper, and Nana sells it like it was a gunshot.

FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL: Jason Blade vs. Jimmy Yang vs. Azrieal vs. Jerrelle Clark- 6.25/10. Clark was very impressive. I don’t understand how he didn’t catch on in either ROH or TNA.

#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH: Roderick Strong vs. BJ Whitmer- 7.25/10

CM PUNK & BRYAN DANIELSON vs. ADAM PEARCE & JIMMY RAVE (w/Prince Nana)- 7.75/10.
This match had a really funny spot where Punk had Rave in the Anaconda Vise while Dragon had Pearce in the Cattle Mutilation. Rave got to the ropes, but Punk didn’t release the hold until four… and which point Danielson released his hold on Pearce, got in the ref’s face and said “HE HAS TIL FIVE!”

Dragon gives a post-match speech, then Punk gives a post-match speech in which he TOTALLY OWNS a heckler (is that a goatee? Or is it a bull’s-eye for your boyfriend?!”) The fun finally ends with Punk running outside and making a snow-angel while wearing NOTHING BUT HIS WRESTLING GEAR! This entire “segment” brought a HUGE smile to my face. It was just SO MUCH FUN.

Overall, this show wasn’t very good, and is definitely the worst ROH show I, personally, have ever seen. That being said, everything on the show was, at worst, solid. The problem with it was that nothing was better than “great,” which is about as good as an above average WWE PPV. The show itself isn’t bad per se, Your ROH money is definitely spent better elsewhere. The only reason that I bought it was because I was getting it for 75% off, and because it is the only show in a string of about 12 straight that I didn’t own (and I am working on the three after that).
